Disney+ Hotstar finally gets official launch date in India

The news of Disney+ content arriving on Hotstar this year has been making the rounds for quite a while now. We finally have an official announcement on the release date by Hotstar itself.

The first scheduled release date was March 29. However, many users began noticing that the Disney content library was streaming on Hotstar weeks before the date.

However, the platform rolled back the limited release and put a halt on it. Now, the April 3 release date is set in stone.

Disney obtained Hotstar through its acquisition of Rupert Murdoch’s 21st Century Fox back in March last year since the Indian streaming platform comes under it.

Instead of separately releasing its streaming platform in India, the media behemoth decided to utilise Hotstar’s estimated 300 million user base in India by merging with it.

This has resulted in the platform changing its name to Disney+ Hotstar as well as getting a brand-new logo with the Disney colour palette.

In the current lockdown scenario, viewers are streaming more web series and films than ever. The addition of Disney+ content will surely provide the audience with a plethora of new options.
