The Kwan sisters’ case in Them: The Scare explained

In Them: The Scare, Dawn comes across the Kwan sisters’ case when their brother contacts her to tell her it is similar to the one she is investigating.

Victor, the brother of the Kwan sisters, anonymously contacts Dawn and invites her over to his parents’ shop, claiming there have been two more murders like the ones she is investigating.

When Dawn visits him, he tells her about his sisters, Sue-Yeon and So-Young, who were murdered.

Before he can further proceed to tell her about them, Victor demands that she won’t hassle his parents.

Last time around, the cops interrogated his father and humiliated him, even though he didn’t do it. Now, they are not even looking into the case.

The Kwan sisters’ experience

Once Dawn assures Victor that she is here just to help, Victor lets her into his sisters’ room. Nothing has been touched; it’s exactly as they left it.

Much like in the other cases Dawn is handling, the mirrors in the room are covered. Victor says that they started covering them two days before they were murdered.

The Kwan sisters were also too afraid to sleep alone, so they had pushed their beds together. The sisters made movies all the time.

The room of the Kwan sisters

Dawn finds the tapes and the camera hidden inside the vent in their room. Days before their deaths, they said that they were being followed home one afternoon but couldn’t describe the man following them.

Victor thought his sisters were just being paranoid. The sisters tried to capture their stalker in one of their videos.

One of them described him as the man with the red hair. However, Dawn and Victor are not able to see anyone in the video.

The morning after the video was shot, Victor found his sisters dead, in a condition similar to that of Bernice Mott and Curtis Maynard.

The Kwan sisters were killed a month ago, but the LAPD doesn’t have reports on it in their database. The officers at the Divisional Homicide Bureau threw their records unit under the bus.

They said their reports never made it to CCAD because they were sitting in their clerk’s record box.

Why were the Kwan sisters targeted?

Near the end of the second season, once finding out that it’s the spirit of her twin brother Edmund who is committing these gruesome murders, Dawn starts noticing the pattern.

Dawn realizes that Edmund is sharing his story with her through these murders. The Kwan sisters were killed because they were twins, just like Edmund and Dawn.
