‘The Shrink Next Door’ brings dark comedy to Apple TV+

Apple TV+ released the official teaser for its upcoming web series, ‘The Shrink Next Door’, set to premiere on November 12 with the first three episodes, and new episodes will premiere weekly, every Friday. It stars Will Ferrell And Paul Rudd in the lead roles, who also serve as executive producers.

The dark comedy is based on the #1 podcast of 2019 by Wondery and Bloomberg Media of the same name. The script has been penned by Georgia Pritchett, and it directed by Michael Showalter.

‘The Shrink Next Door’ tells the story of Dr Isaac “Ike” Herschkopf (Rudd), a celebrity psychiatrist, and his patient Martin “Marty” Markowitz (Ferrell). It is based on true events.

Ike gradually integrates himself into Marty’s life throughout the course of their relationship, even moving into Marty’s Hamptons mansion and convincing Marty to make him president of the family firm.

The series examines how an apparently typical doctor-patient relationship devolves into an exploitative one rife with power grabs, manipulation, and dysfunction.

The series also stars Kathryn Hahn as ‘Phyllis,’ Marty’s younger sister, and Casey Wilson as ‘Bonnie’, the wife of Dr. Herschkopf.

Wondery’s Marshall Lewy, Hernan Lopez, and Aaron Hart, and Bloomberg Media’s Jared Sandberg, Katie Boyce, and Francesca Levy will serve as executive producers, with Joe Nocera podcast’s host, serving as co-executive producer.
