Amazon Prime Video India is set to release its new original web series ‘Paatal Lok’ on May 15.
Anushka Sharma-owned Clean Slate films’ first digital production stars Gul Panag, Neeraj Kabi, Jaideep Ahlawat in lead roles.
Written by Sudip Sharma, the theme is set upon traditional concepts of three realms: Heaven (Swarga Lok), Earth (Dharti Lok) and the ‘Pataala’ (Paatal Lok).
The official description by Amazon Prime Video reads:
“A down and out cop lands the case of a lifetime when four suspects are nabbed in the assassination attempt of a prime-time journalist. The case turns out to be a devious maze where nothing is what it looks like. The pursuit of it leads him to the dark netherworld – the ‘Paatal Lok’, and to shocking discoveries in the past of the four suspects.”
The trailer shows the violent and devilish mood of the upcoming web series. It starts with a narration on how the world is divided into these three realms.
We are quickly introduced to the four suspects as well as the journalist (Kabi). The inspector (Ahlawat) in charge of the case quickly begins how deep down the abyss he’ll need to go to find the answers.
As the web series itself puts it: “The road to heaven, goes through hell.”
Head of India Originals Aparna Purohit said in a statement:
“Gritty and authentic stories from the heartland are appreciated by audiences across the world. Paatal Lok is yet another step towards our goal of providing engaging local content that puts India and quintessentially Indian stories on the global map.”
