The USS Lawton mystery in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters explained

In Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Bill Randa’s first encounter with a titan on the USS Lawton ship encourages him to search for monsters and join Monarch.

The USS Lawton ship went down 200 miles west of Pearl Harbor in 1943. Bill Randa was on this ship and is the only survivor. The public doesn’t know the truth about the ship’s sinking; they were told that it sank in the battle.

However, Bill knows what he saw. According to him, whatever destroyed the ship had no conscience or reasoning; it just wanted to destroy. The character of Bill Randa talks about the ship in Kong: Skull Island too.

What happened to the ship?

It’s clear that a titan attacked the ship, but Monarch: Legacy of Monsters further reveals where the ship went. In the Philippines, Bill Randa crosses paths with a Japanese scientist named Keiko Miura, who is investigating airborne radioisotopes over the Philippine Sea.

They find out that they are chasing the same thing when the path of radiation that Keiko is investigating matches the path of a dragon mentioned in the local folklore that Randa is chasing. The path takes them right back to USS Lawton, which is now 5000 miles away from where it disappeared.

A titan comes out of the USS Lawton

Inside the ship, Bill not only finds some of his belongings and discovers a few corpses that have been preserved, but he and Keiko also meet a titan that resides inside it. The titan is called the Ion Dragon, and according to Randa, it carves paths of ionizing radiation.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters hints that Ion Dragon is responsible for sinking the ship, considering that it has been living inside it. However, the show doesn’t confirm this theory.
