Medusa: Percy Jackson and the Olympians character explained

Medusa is a gorgon who attempts to sway Percy against his companions during their quest. The character is played by Jessica Parker Kennedy.

Percy, Grover, and Annabeth are feeling from Alecto the Fury when they come across a satyr path in the forest.

Grover smells hamburgers and it leads them to a house with several stone statues outside and a sign with the name ‘Auntie Em’s’ on it.

Annabeth and Grover immediately realize that this is the home of Medusa and turn to run but Alecto corners them.

Medusa comes outside and invites everyone inside, although all of them have averted their gaze.

Percy feels like they can trust Medusa, and seeing as how Alecto is terrified of the gorgon, they choose to go inside.

A woman scorned

Once inside, Medusa offers them a spread of snacks on the table, but Annabeth is nervous about being there.

It was Athena who punished Medusa and Annabeth worries that the gorgon will take it out on her.

Medusa calls her condition a gift rather than a curse and then shares her version of what happened.

She says that she worshipped Athena the same way Annabeth did, but she was never acknowledged by the goddess.

It was only when Posiedon showed an interest in Medusa, that Athena took notice and accused the gorgon of embarrassing the goddess.

Medusa claims that she was unjustly punished but Annabeth doesn’t agree with her.

Their host heads back to the kitchen and asks Percy to help her out. When they’re alone, Medusa questions Percy’s trust in his companions, but when he chooses not to work with her, she goes after them.

Anyone who looks straight at her turns to stone

The children run down to the basement where several stone statues lie. They set a trap wherein Percy lures Medusa to him, and then Annabeth places her hat of invisibility on her.

Percy then slices off her head and uses it to turn Alecto into stone. They deliberate on what to do with the head and Percy chooses to send it back to Olympus using Hermes’ courier system.
