Chiron: Percy Jackson and the Olympians character explained

Chiron or Mr. Brunner is one of Percy’s earliest mentors in Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The character is played by Glynn Turman.

During a field trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Percy faces bullying from his classmates, only to be defended by his teacher, Mr. Brunner.

In a show of support, Mr. Brunner offers Percy some encouraging advice and hands him a pen, urging him to keep it close as it could prove useful.

The pen, which transforms into a sword, later plays a crucial role when Percy uses it to vanquish Mrs. Dodds.

Following the incident, Mr. Brunner and Grover inform Percy that Mrs. Dodds never existed.

After Percy is expelled, Mr. Brunner attempts to offer comfort and provides him with some vague advice.

However, Percy, feeling overwhelmed and disheartened, finds it difficult to be receptive to his teacher’s words at that moment.

More than meets the eye

A figure that sounds like Mr. Brunner welcomes Percy to Camp Half-Blood after he kills the minotaur.

The next day, Percy notices a wheelchair next to Mr. D, and soon enough, Mr. Brunner walks in in his true form as a centaur.

Grover addresses Mr. Brunner by his true name, Chiron, and mentions that he’s the camp activities director and the immortal mentor to all heroes.

Chiron gives Percy a tour of the camp and explains the story behind it, how demigods come here to learn about their parentage and gain training that will aid them in this world.

Chiron and Mr. D agree unanimously to keep the knowledge of Sally’s fate from him because they feel it would be a distraction.

When Percy is finally claimed by Poseidon, Chiron tells him about the impending war brewing in Olympus unless Percy goes on a quest to find the Master Bolt.

The centaur then lines up some of the exceptional members of the camp so that Percy can choose who accompanies him on his quest to the Underworld.
