Jaro Gatsi: Anthracite character explained

In Anthracite, Jaro Gatsi is Ida’s first lead in her search for her father. Hatik plays Jaro.

Jaro Gatsi is a troubled young lad who has moved to Lévionna to complete his six-month probation for possession, supplying, and transferring narcotics.

In his defense, Jaro claims that he was bartending at a club and did favors for the wrong people. After watching one of his customers die, he reported the drug ring.

Jaro used to be a medical student. However, things quickly went bad for a teenage Jaro, who used to party all the time, and turned him into a bartender.

As of now, Jaro also has a restraining order on him. His wife, Anaïs, is worried that what is happening with Jaro will affect their daughter, Malia. Hence, she keeps Jaro away from Malia and hires a lawyer, seeking sole custody of Malia.

Jaro lives with his uncle and aunt, Claude and Marie, in Lévionna. Much like his uncle, even he has not moved on from the death of his mother, Juliette.

Jaro’s role in the series

Jaro meets Ida when she comes looking for him because her father, who seems to have been kidnapped, had a picture of him.

Jaro’s name pops up in the murder case of a woman named Emma Marçais, who has been killed the same way Roxane Vial was in 1994.

Ida covers for Jaro, and in exchange, he assists her in her investigation. In the search for Solal, Jaro learns about his mother’s connection with Caleb; she was part of his cult.

Juliette used to attend Caleb’s parties. There was a rumor that Caleb could heal people, and there is a chance that Juliette was seeking help for her nightmares.

Caleb had been asking for Jaro from Solal. Ida does the job of bringing him to Caleb, who claims that Jaro needs to fight the darkness or it will consume his descendants.

Jaro’s fate at the end

For some reason, in the series, the killer randomly targets Jaro’s family too. Marie’s death especially comes as a surprise to Jaro.

While the killers are revealed to be the Faures, Jaro is able to rescue his daughter, Malia, from them.

Throughout their investigation, several truths about Jaro’s mother, Juliette, come to light, including the fact that she is also the mother of Ida, which is why Ida and Jaro drop their romance midway.

However, Ida not only finds a great half-brother in Jaro but also a match who can help her with the transplant that she needs for her leukemia.

A more harsh truth is uncovered when Jaro listens to an audio tape left behind by his mother. It contains a conversation between Juliette and Roxane about Claude, Jaro’s uncle and Juliette’s brother, hurting Juliette.

Jaro comes to know that Claude raped his mother and even killed her when she started remembering things; Juliette’s death was not an accident.

Claude is also responsible for the death of Roxane. To keep his crimes covered, he kept trying to stop the likes of Solal from reopening the case.

He even went as far as to kill his wife, Marie, who had also listened to the tape and found out the truth. While Jaro almost beats his uncle to death, it is not revealed what he and Ida do with him.
