Hannah: Prom Dates character explained

In Prom Dates, Hannah is one of the lead characters who is struggling to come out as a lesbian. Julia Lester plays Hannah.

In the film, Hannah is a friend who will never leave Jess’s side, no matter what. Hence, she is dragged into Jess’s dreams of finding the right date for their prom.

However, Hannah is dealing with a crisis of her own at the same time. Hannah has come to realize that she is a lesbian, but she lacks the guts to come out in front of everyone.

For the entire senior year, Hannah dated a boy named Greg, who is head over heels in love with her.

Hannah breaks up with Greg by walking out on him when he reveals to her that he is switching colleges just to be with her.

Falling out with Jess

Hannah is able to come out in front of Jess, who, as her best friend, knew that Hannah is gay all along.

Hannah may think that nobody knows about her sexuality, but people who are close to her are able to figure it out. Even Jacob, her brother, knows that she is not into men.

Hannah and Jess both lose their dates a day before the prom. When Hannah gives up on their prom pact, Jess encourages her not to by convincing her that she could be getting intimate with the girl of her dreams.

Hannah is desperate to be with a girl she likes. Hence, she tags along, and throughout the night, she goes from kissing her cousin to asking a stripper to be her date for the prom.

Hannah learns the secret Jess is hiding from her

After having a rough night, being done with how Jess treats her, and learning that Jess got intimate with her brother, Jacob, things between Hannah and Jess fell out.

Making things right with Greg

During an argument between Jess and Hannah, Jess points out that Hannah has treated Greg the same way Jess treated her.

Greg is heartbroken after finding Hannah with Angie Adams, not because Hannah is into girls but because she lied to him and used him.

He wouldn’t have minded being her fake boyfriend if Hannah was afraid to come out. He thinks she should have just dumped him if she was not ready to tell him the truth.

By the end of the film, Hannah makes things right with Greg by apologizing to him the way he proposed to her for the prom. Furthermore, she also comes out in front of the whole school.

Jess comes to apologize to her best friend. Both Jess and Hannah don’t find love at the prom, but they reconcile and spend the night together, playing music and enjoying each other’s company.
