In The Idea of You, Daniel is the ex-husband of Solène. Reid Scott plays Daniel.
In the film, Daniel is with a woman named Eva. He is the one who brings an all-access backstage pass and a VIP meet-and-greet for Coachella for Izzy and her friends.
He is supposed to be taking her to the event but backs out at the last minute, resulting in Solène canceling her camping trip to take Izzy and her friends to Coachella, where she meets Hayes Campbell of August Moon.
The divorce
Solène is very careful when it comes to opening up to someone because she has been hurt before.
Daniel and Solène met at a party in Echo Park. The two liked each other, so they got together, fell in love, got married, and got pregnant at a very young age.
They put their heads down and worked hard. Daniel was crushing at work. However, a rift grew between Daniel and Solène.
Solène thought that was normal. That is, until one night when they are out with Daniel’s work friends.
Solène was repeating gossip about someone they knew who cheated on someone else. Everyone went silent. Solène looked at Daniel, who won’t look back at her.
Solène learned that Daniel was cheating on her with Eva, who was a young lawyer at his firm. Everybody knew, except her. Solène took the news nicely. She offered to forget it for their family.
However, Daniel was in love with Eva. He was not willing to move on. He quietly left to be with Eva.
Daniel’s nature
While describing Daniel at first, Solène mentions that he was very intelligent, outgoing, and driven. Daniel also prioritizes work a lot. However, later in the film, it is revealed that he is a hypocrite too.
He warns Solène about dating a young popstar and how it will affect them when he has done something similar by dating Eva. Even Eva agrees that Daniel is a hypocrite. She leaves him later on in the film.
Still, despite everything, Daniel, much like Solène, cares about his daughter, Izzy, and strives to be there for her, as Izzy faces the media when her mother is dating Hayes. That is all until Solène makes the ultimate decision to break up with Hayes.
