Rick and Morty season 7 episode 7 recap & review: Wet Kuat Amortican Summer

Rick and Morty season 7 episode 7 sees Summer earn a device to enhance specific attributes but things take a turn for the classic shenanigans when she and Morty’s body end up fusing together.

Recap

Summer earns an attribute slider after she’s done with all of Rick’s chores. Morty has been wanting that for himself for too long and asks her to let him have it for a bit.

Summer uses the slider at the Frolf (Frisbee+Golf) party and cranks up different attributes one by one, impressing one and all. Morty has had enough and gets it off of her. The two fight and fall into the pool.

The water shortcircuits the device and the siblings end up getting fused together. Morty becomes a “Kuat” — a grotesque miniature version of himself sticking out of Summer’s stomach, with only “Open your mind!” coming out of his mouth.

Summer asks Rick to fix the horrid situation but he’d only do it once she’s done with more chores. However, she’s had enough of trying to feed his crazy alien pets and stumbles upon an exclusive nightclub for Kuats.

Kenneth, the organizer of the nightclub party, ends up being a Kuat trafficker, and he gets Morty surgically removed from Summer, and sends him to be sold to a wealthy buyer. Summer and Rick recreate a Taken-style hostage breakout.

The climactic battle sees Rick kill the Kuat who’s been controlling Kenneth and his other Kuats all this time, by drowning him in the ocean.

His spider robot is now Morty’s, who uses it in the Frolf game, winning the guys the match, as Summer again becomes the cool girl again.

Rick and Morty season 7 episode 7 ends things with a post-credits scene of the wealthy buyer laughing with his friends on “69” jokes.

Review

  • Rick and Morty season 7 finally pivots to some Summer screentime and watching her is always a treat.
  • Her dynamic with Rick somehow feels even better than usual and it’s always a treat to see him interact with a non-godly being with respect.
  • Perhaps it’s because she enters the frame that Morty now has the chance to be more childish than usual, as he goes ahead and ruins Summer’s party in ways both sad and hilarious.
  • The latter half of the episode is especially hilarious and the Kuat jokes land really well.
