Rick Prime’s story comes to a bloody end in the latest episode of Rick and Morty which has taken the viewers by surprise while marking a new beginning for the titular half of the animated show.
In a subversive turn in the Rick and Morty canon, Rick Prime is killed in the fifth episode of the show’s seventh installment.
Considered by many to be one of, if not the main villain of the series, the diabolical man bites the dust in a bloody affair. Helping Rick take his revenge is a character who contributes to more of this subversion that marks the episode.
Evil Morty is disturbed
At the beginning of the episode, Rick is trying to essentially frack the central finite curve to flush out Rick Prime. This sends a shockwave strong enough to affect Evil Morty’s spectacular lair outside the curve.
He portals to Rick and Morty and begins roasting his setup while flexing his knowledge, which ends up helping Rick fine-tune and improve his machine. He also helps the duo get out of Rick Prime’s traps and other attacks.
However, his role doesn’t end there as he goes on to become an instrumental character in the titular duo’s victory, after which he returns to his place while warning Rick and his grandson to never interfere with his peace.
Rick Prime gloats
Rick Prime is just Rick with a lot of free time, and so he takes care of all bases when it comes to maxing out his defenses and taking care of all loose ends so that Rick C-137 can’t track him down.
After Rick, Morty, and Evil Morty finally do track him down, he is not fazed at all and gleefully taunts his opponents. He’s also operating the Omega Device, which he uses to erase Rick’s uncle Slow Mobius across the universes.
He keeps at his psychopathic tendencies and further torments Rick multiple times, rubbing his wife’s death in his face as he attacks him while also keeping Evil Morty at bay.
Rick’s revenge and life thereafter
However, Rick Prime’s clones all deplete and so does his set of moves against two mighty foes. While a battle with Rick proves to be in his favor, he’s not a great match for Evil Morty’s intellect, who eventually manages to incapacitate him.
He gives the reigns to Rick C-137 after reviving him. Rick takes over and starts beating Rick Prime with his hands as the antagonist tries to get inside his head with his words again.
However, Rick is just consumed by his revenge as he pummels Rick Prime down to a pulp, and then maybe something even more grotesque that’s not shown.
The after-effect of having had his revenge taken, and cathartically so, Rick is just a hollow shell of a man, unable to parse through the series of events that pass him by as others perceive them to be ordinary life.
Rick is not there anymore, instead, he’s a man who has become one with the void, bereft of any purpose or point that he can ascribe to his life hereafter.
This marks the beginning of something far worse than the usual rounds of enemies for Rick — it’s a lack of reason to move ahead with life. However, he does have a loving family who can revive in him a new sense of purpose.
