In episode 3 of Ahsoka, Sabine continues her training under Huyang and the titular Jedi as they search for Morgan Elsbeth. The episode is streaming on Disney+.
Huyang is running Sabine through the basic forms of dueling to see where she stands. She remembers her training, but just barely according to the droid.
Ahsoka decides to use a different approach with Sabine, and the two of them spar. Hera meets with Chancellor Mothma and a few other senators to ask for assistance in following Ahsoka’s lead.
A senator named Xioni is the biggest roadblock as he claims that rumors of Thrawn’s survival are far-fetched and don’t deserve to be looked into.
Ahsoka tells Sabine that she may not be strong with the Force, but she can train to harness it if she starts small and channels her focus. Hera contacts them to say that she wasn’t able to convince the senators for backup.
As soon as they enter the Denab system, their comms are cut off because something in the region is jamming them. They exit hyperspace some distance away from Seatos and are immediately met with a squadron of fighters led by Hati and Marrok.
A dog fight ensues and after some initial struggles between Sabine and Ahsoka, they manage to take down some of them. They get closer to the Eye of Sion and Huyang performs a full scan as they fly straight at the ring and take direct fire.
Morgan doesn’t destroy the ship but she is able to shut down their systems momentarily, including Huyang. While Sabine tries to get the ship running again, Ahsoka steps outside to deal with the remaining fighters.
Sabine succeeds in restoring power and descends into the atmosphere of Seatos. They come across a herd of Purrgil and manage to lose Hati and Marrok thanks to slick flying.
They set the ship down in the forest just as Huyang’s back battery kicks in. Huyang explains that the ring isn’t complete yet but it has the capability to travel great distances at intense speeds.
They decide to hide out in the forest till things calm down, and Baylan Skoll sends out a group of assassin droids and aliens to take them out.
- After a significant start, this episode moves at a much slower pace. Despite a runtime of around half an hour, it does occasionally feel sluggish.
- There are still profound setpieces that fans might appreciate, such as the training sequence right at the beginning and the appearance of the Purrgil herd. The brilliant score helps elevate these moments.
- As long as Huyang has a starring role in these episodes, he will receive a shout-out for being one of the more entertaining characters in the series. David Tennant is at his cheekiest best which is one of his defining talents.
