Zee TV has started airing episodes of ALTBalaji’s popular web series as a means to compensate for its TV serials, which have run out episodes.
The three web series which have currently found their way to conventional television are Kehne ko Humsafar Hai, Baarish and Karrle Tu Bhi Mohabbat.
ALTBalaji managing director Ekta Kapoor addressed the change on social media:
The advent of the coronavirus pandemic has forced the entertainment industries all over the world to halt production of new content.
The Indian entertainment industry had first decided to put a stop to all shooting from 19th March to 31st March.
Now, PM Modi has announced a 21-day lockdown all over India, which will conclude on 14 April if the conditions improve.
This could mean web series will be used as a substitute for TV serials for the foreseeable future since ALTBalaji’s content library is vast.
Zee TV business head Aparna Bhosle said in a statement:
“In times where social distancing is the need of the hour to curb the outbreak of COVID-19 and people are spending more time indoors, the idea is to provide audiences with the most engaging entertainment for the entire family.
“We have a new 9 to 11 PM band with three new finite series – Karle Tu Mohabbat, Baarish and Kehne Ko Humsafar Hain, that will reassure viewers that we can conquer the biggest challenges with the power of love. Each of the shows has strong TV faces that the masses are closely attached to.”
Kehne Ko Humsafar Hai stars Ronit Roy, Gurdeep Kohli and Mona Singh. It portrays complex subjects like infidelity and has proved popular among viewers.
Baarish is a tale of two individuals from vastly different backgrounds, who meet while stranded in rain. It features Sharman Joshi and Asha Negi.
Karrle Tu Bhi Mohabbat, starring fan-favourite couple Ram Kapoor and Sakshi Tanwar, revolves around a struggling superstar and his counsellor.
