“This revealing documentary honors the legendary Sidney Poitier and his legacy as an iconic actor, filmmaker and activist at the center of Hollywood and the Civil Rights Movement. Featuring candid interviews with Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Robert Redford, Lenny Kravitz, Barbra Streisand, Spike Lee and many more, the film is also produced by Derik Murray, in close collaboration with the Poitier family.”

Sidney Poitier, known for his movies in the early 1960s, was the first black man to win the Academy Award for Best Actor. He passed away in January of 2022.

Chronicling the life of the legend, the actor begins from the time he immigrated from the Bahamas to segregated America where he first became conscious of his race. There is the iconic scene from Poitier’s movie in which he is the first black man shown to be assertive on screen. His life intersects with growing political tensions in the country. With inputs from famous black actors of Hollywood, including a crying Oprah Winfrey, scenes from his movies flash by as songs by Marvin Gaye and Michael Kiwanuka play in the background.
