Nordic TV series Black Widows to get Hindi remake

Nordic drama TV series ‘Black Widows’ will be getting a Hindi adaptation through the streaming platform ZEE5.

The deal has been announced in collaboration with Big Synergy Media Ltd. Two seasons with 12 episodes each have been ordered.

Black Widows is itself a remake of the Finnish series Mustat Lesket which began airing in 2014.

The official synopsis of the Nordic version reads:

“Three women are gathered at a cabin with their three colleague husbands when they watch the men blow up in the boat just going out fishing. A police man investigates the widows, who will have to try to explain what happened.”

Black Widows also has versions in Ukraine, Estonia, Lithuania, the Middle East, Mexico, Scandinavia and the Czech Republic.

ZEE5 India CEO Tarun Katial said in a statement:

“With over 100 original web series and films across genres and languages, our aim is to continue to offer consumers with content that is real, relevant and relatable. Black Widows is an engaging story featuring strong female protagonists, plenty of suspense and a large dose of dark humour.

“We could immediately see its appeal for Indian audiences and found a credible partner in NENT Studios UK and Big Synergy Media Ltd. I am certain that this could prove to be a hugely popular, binge-worthy series when it launches later this year.”
