Baki season 2: Popular action anime returns on Netflix

Popular Netflix original anime Baki is set to return to the platform with a second season, titled ‘Baki: The Great Raitai Tournament Saga’. It will launch on June 4.

The official description by Netflix reads:

“While martial arts champion Baki Hanma trains hard to surpass his legendary father, five violent death row inmates descend upon Tokyo to take him on.”

The anime series, which first arrived globally on Netflix in December 2018, has gained quite a following. There are 26 episodes so far, with the first season divided into two parts.

The latest season will see Baki entering The Great Raitai Tournament in China, which is held only only once every 100 years. The winner will be chosen as the next true Sea Emperor.

It picks up right where season one ended.

Netflix’s season 1 synopsis reads:

“The protagonist, Baki Hanma, trains with an intense focus to become strong enough to surpass his father, Yujiro Hanma, the strongest fighter in the world.

“Five of the world’s most violent and brutal death row inmates are gathering to face Baki. Their objective is to taste defeat — their unmatched strength and skill have led them to grow bored of life itself, and they now seek out Baki in the hopes that he can overwhelm and utterly crush them.

“In this crisis, other underground martial art warriors gather to fight by Baki’s side: Kaoru Hanayama, Gouki Shibukawa, Retsu Kaioh, and Doppo Orochi. An epic showdown between violent death row inmates and Baki and his friends begins!”

Baki season 2 is the latest anime title coming to Netflix, as it ramps up its anime content to take on the rise of streaming competitors.

It recently renewed its original anime Castlevania for season 4, as well as announcing the arrival of the latest Pokemon season, ‘Pokemon Journeys: The Series’.
