Amazon Prime Video announces Barry Jenkins’ ‘The Underground Railroad’ with teaser

Amazon Prime Video recently released a teaser for ‘The Underground Railroad’. The web series has been directed by Barry Jenkins and will premiere on the platform on May 14.

Academy Award winner, Jenkins, who left his ever lasting impressions with critically-acclaimed films like ‘Medicine for Melancholy’, ‘Moonlight’, and ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’, is in the news for this upcoming web series.

The show is the screen adaptation of Pulitzer Prize-winning 2016 novel by the same name, written by Colson Whitehead.

The story follows Cora Randall’s (Thuso Mbedu) escape from Georgia plantation for the rumoured Underground Railroad in search of freedom. But, her journey takes a different tangent when Cora is pursued by Ridgeway (Joel Edgerton), a bounty hunter.
He is desperate to bring her back to the plantation.

‘The Underground Railroad’ stars Aaron Pierre, William Jackson Harper, Sheila Atim, Amber Gray, Peter De Jersey, Chukwudi Iwuji, Damon Herriman, Lily Rabe, Irone Singleton, Mychal-Bella Bowman, Marcus MJ Gladney Jr, Will Poulter, and Peter Mullan.

The 10-episode series is produced by Brad Pitt”s Plan B Entertainment, Pastel and Big Indie with Amazon Studios and executively produced by Adele Romanski, Mark Ceryak, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Brad Pitt, Richard Heus, Jacqueline Hoyt and Whitehead.
