Amazon Prime Video is going to make the audience crave for new episodes of The Boys season 2

Amazon Prime Video released the first three episodes only of The Boys Season Two on September 4, 2020. With Season Two highly anticipated, the web series has thrown a curveball by not releasing the entire season at once this time around.

The Boys is an American superhero web series based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. The first season, which came out on July 26, 2019, received rave reviews and critical acclaim from viewers and experts alike.

The Boys follows the story of the titular ‘Boys’, a group of vigilantes led by a former CIA operative. Their aim is to keep in check the misdeeds of the ‘Seven’, the latter being drunk on the power of their abilities.

The Seven are individuals who have superpowers and are recognised as heroes by the general public. Owned by Vought International, the superheroes are nothing if not arrogant and corrupt.

While all the eight episodes of the first season were released simultaneously, the same cannot be said for the second season. The official description on Amazon Prime Video for the second season reads:

“NEW EPISODES [on] FRIDAYS. In a more intense Season 2 of THE BOYS, Butcher, Hughie and the team reel from their losses in Season 1. On the run from the law, they struggle to fight back against the Superheroes. Meanwhile, Vought, the hero management company, cashes in on the panic over Supervillains, and a new hero, Stormfront, shakes up the company and challenges an already unstable Homelander.”

Prime Video has always dropped the entire season of a web series on the same day. But with The Boys Season Two, it seems to be opting for the Apple TV+ way of releasing most of its web series, which follows a trend of releasing the first three episodes of a web series with one episode being released every week after that.

All of the streaming giants follow different approaches with regard to different web series. But, releasing one episode per week is reminiscent of the television way of life where the viewers have to eagerly wait for the telecast of the next episode.

In the era of binge-watching, this decision of Prime Video has not settled well with the audience. Already comparisons are being made with Netflix over the delivery method of Season Two of The Boys.

In all this, there is a silver lining in the form of confirmation of Season Three even before the premiere of Season Two. Does that mean that the viewers are in for a treat? If only they can wait for that long!
