The film stars Tessa Thompson (Westworld) and former footballer-turned-actor Nnamdi Asomugha (Crown Heights), along with Aja Naomi King, Ryan Michelle Bathe, Regé-Jean Page, and Eva Longoria.

The story of Sylvie’s Love revolves around the titular Sylvie (played by Thompson) and her love for Robert (played by Asomugha).

In the summer of 1957 in New York, love is blossoming between a young girl who is waiting for her fiancé to return from war and a saxophonist. But the life of the romance is short-lived as reality stares the protagonists in the eye.

Ruth B’s If This is Love serenades us to years later when Sylvie and Robert cross paths again. She is a successful TV producer and he is cutting albums. But, in all this, something that hasn’t changed is their feelings for each other, even after all the years that have passed by.

Sylvie is now married to a man who tries to pull her back from living her dream. But she holds her own as she says: “I can’t be the woman of your dreams while also trying to be the woman of my own.”

Written and directed by Eugene Ashe (Homecoming), Sylvie’s Love is his second feature which premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. The love story marries his love of music and film and also includes the then changing times, the changing culture, and the true price of love.

The inspiration for Sylvie’s look in the film has been drawn from Ladybird Cleveland, an American painter of African, Cherokee, and Irish heritage, whose work primarily depicts the African-American experience.

The film will be releasing this Christmas for the global audience. While Page has a minor part in Sylvie’s Love, his period drama, Bridgerton, will also be releasing on the same day.

Thompson was last seen, or rather heard, as the voice of Lady in the revival of the 1995 animated classic, Lady and the Tramp.
