Mario Brenna from The Crown season 6 part 1: Is he a real photographer?

In The Crown season 6 part 1, a picture captured by Mario Brenna of Diana and Dodi kissing wreaks havoc as Diana finds herself chased everywhere she goes.

In the sixth season of The Crown, Mohamed Al-Fayed is willing to go to lengths to make sure his son Dodi ends up with Diana.

To make Dodi and Diana’s affair public, Al-Fayed hires what he calls the best photographer in the Mediterranean, and that photographer turns out to be Mario Brenna.

Mario Brenna talks about how people are willing to pay a lot for photographs of celebrities, especially if they get the right shot, and the right shot is very difficult to find. He says a photographer has to be a hunter or killer to get that shot.

Mario Brenna is as famous as the people whose pictures he takes because he is willing to take that risk to get the right shot.

Is Mario Brenna a real photographer?

The second episode of The Crown season 6 features two photographers: Mario Brenna and Duncan Muir. While the latter is more likely fictionalized, Mario Brenna is a real photographer who has worked for fashion houses.

After capturing the photograph of Diana and Dodi kissing, his life, as well as his subjects’ lives, changed. The photograph solved the Italian photographer’s financial struggles at that time, as he would go on to sell them for around £1.7 million. However, Brenna does not agree with The Crown’s portrayal of the events.

How Brenna found Dodi and Diana has been disputed, and Brenna has claimed that it was just luck that he found them there. Al-Fayed never contacted and hired him. Mario Brenna also claims that he doesn’t identify with the term killer for his work.

The photograph certainly caused a ruckus, and everyone wanted to photograph this budding romance. Diana and Dodi’s deaths had an impact on Brenna, who had come to believe that he fueled the hunt for Diana and Dodi. However, he likes to think that if it weren’t him, someone else would have captured those pictures.

Reportedly, Mario lives near Lake Como, in Italy, today, and has continued to photograph celebrities.
