Yemi: Champion character explained

In Champion, Yemi is the girlfriend of Tayo, a friend of Vita and Honey, who takes Vita to new heights. Rachel Adedeji plays Yemi.

Yemi is a manager who appears in the very first episode as the woman that Tayo brings along with her to Bosco’s 25th birthday celebration party.

It’s soon revealed that Tayo is dating Yemi, who also becomes an important person for Vita, as she helps her succeed the way she wants.

Laurent describes Yemi as a brash manager, but unlike most managers, she values the art of her artists.

Joining Yemi

At first, it’s Mark who is taking Vita to the top by offering her a contract that will make her a global star.

However, Vita finds herself singing for people she doesn’t care about. Furthermore, Mark is opportunistic and sees Vita as a product that will help him make money.

Everything changes for Vita when Yemi takes her to her secret paradise, where her artists make music to let go of themselves and have fun.

Yemi’s approach towards her artists makes Vita have second thoughts about who should manage her.

Vita eventually chooses that she wants to shape her music the way she wants to and decides to approach Yemi.

After putting up an impressive performance at a festival in Jamaica, arranged by Yemi, Vita gets Yemi to be her manager.

Yemi’s condition

Yemi helps Vita see how incredible she is the way she is, but when it comes to joining hands, she puts in a condition that is not mentioned in Vita’s contract before she can start managing her.

Yemi firmly believes that Vita needs to let go of her family, which is always pulling her down, if she wants to be herself.

Yemi puts in a condition before becoming Vita’s manager

Yemi not only offers herself as a manager but also gives Vita a perfect place to live.

To not lose the support of Yemi, Vita doesn’t follow Bosco, who is mad to learn that his father has played him and that his daughter is moving far away from him.

While Bosco goes missing, Vita climbs the ladder of success and even gets nominated for the award of Best Newcomer, with Yemi by her side.

Proving Yemi wrong

When Bosco makes a comeback with a new song, Yemi claims that Bosco has returned to take Vita’s limelight.

Vita knows Bosco isn’t like that, and Bosco proves that he cares about his sister. Laurent breaks up with Vita and doesn’t allow her to use their music at an award function.

At a time like this, Vita is forced to compose a new song for her performance. Yemi is disappointed with the last-minute change, but she approves of the song.

What makes Vita’s performance better is the surprise appearance of Bosco, who joins her on stage to sing with her and also lets his sister have the time of her life, which is the opposite of what Yemi had predicted.

Yemi never really disliked Bosco, but she does care about her artists, which makes her a far better manager than most managers out there.
