Yang Ju-Ran: Marry My Husband character explained

Yang Ju-Ran is a major supporting character in Marry My Husband. Gong Min-Jeung plays the character in the show.

Yang Ju-Ran is protagonist Kang Ji-Won’s co-worker and the assistant manager of U&K Food’s Marketing Team 1.

She has been a similarly docile and abiding member of the company like Ji-Won has been all her life.

However, when Ji-Won gets transported ten years back in time, she gets a chance to take revenge on her murderers and also get back at all those who did her wrong.

One such person was Ji-Won’s boss, the manager of Marketing Team 1, Kim Kyung-Wook.

Similar woes

Ju-Ran was supposed to become the manager but Kyung-Wook ended up snatching that position away from her, thanks to his familial connection with a higher-up.

Despite his unbounded incompetence and misogynist behavior, he mistreated and presided over much more competent and talented Ji-Won and Ju-Ran.

Like Ji-Won, Yang Ju-Ran suffered a similar fate as in she has always had a good-for-nothing husband.

Kim Kyung-Wook, Former Section Chief, currently assistant manager of U&K Food’s Marketing Team 1

This makes her take care of all the household chores, taking care of her daughter, on top of grueling work at the job.

At home, her cheating husband won’t do anything and quit his job, and at work, her boss would pile on her and use her hard work to take all credit and enjoy the benefits.

Changing fates

When Kang Ji-Won travels back in time, she decides to change her fate and not let Kyung-Wook treat her the way he did in her previous life.

She also observes Ju-Ran, and how she remembers her being very similar to herself.

She helps her overcome her lack of confidence and fear that has been programmed into her.

Ju-Ran struggles to make progress but in time, manages to come out of her shell substantially.

Ji-Won helps Ju-Ran get her deserved promotion finally, as Kyung-Wook is fired from his position.

She also learns to show him his place, thanks to Ji-Won asking her to stand her ground in front of the misogynist boss.

She also helps her contend with her husband regarding the workload and Yang Ju-Ran gets her parents’ help with that.

There’s another similarity between Yang Ju-Ran and Kang Ji-Won.

Lee Suk-Joon Marry My Husband
Lee Suk-Joon, Director of Strategic Planning

Like the latter, Ju-Ran has also had a lover of hers who enjoys a high position in the company.

In Ji-Won’s case, it is Yu Ji-Hyuk, who never gathered enough courage to confess his feelings to Ji-Won in his previous life.

In Ju-Ran’s case, it’s Lee Suk-Joon, who has always had a thing for her but has never confessed his feelings to her.

In her second life, Ji-won’s fate changes trajectory; Ji-Hyuk becomes hers.

Similarly, she also helps change Ju-Ran’s fate, who becomes closer to Suk-Joon as well.

But this change in their fates’ trajectories entails negatives as well.

A transfer of fate?

The biggest and most alarming similarity between the two women appears when Ji-Won learns that Ju-Ran has been diagnosed with stomach cancer.

In her previous life, it was she who got the stomach cancer.

When taking into account the ways Ji-Won changed her fate and professional trajectory, and how all of it has involved Ju-Ran as well, she concludes that she has transferred her fate to Ju-Ran.

She blames herself for doing that inadvertently, but unknown to her, there’s more to the picture yet.

There are already people and factors that can prevent Yang Ju-Ran from suffering a tragic fate similar to Ji-Won.
