Plot summary:

It’s been 6 years since Jason and Nikki adopted Princess and Tyler and now the whole family is heading to Bev’s funeral.

Nikki is worried that Princess and Tyler’s birth mother, Kat, will show up but Jason calms her down.

Bev knew so many people and all of them turned up to show that they cared. She arranges for them to head to the bar later and have a drink on her.

Scott goes to the wrong bar and ends up buying drinks for everyone. Princess helps Jason have a warm moment with his dad.

She also learns that Bev gifted her Kat’s old car, while Tyler grabs a cardboard cutout of Bev because he doesn’t want to let her go just yet.

Princess finds Kat’s full name in one of the car documents and looks up all the Kat Reids in the area.

She visits all of them to see if they turn out to be her mother. Nikki discovers that Bev was on a dating site and she goes on a date with one of the men to let them know that Bev died.

Scott invites everyone to a mansion for his birthday where he plans a murder mystery game but no one else seems interested.

While they are all doing their own thing, Scott reads a book about rowing the Atlantic and gets inspired.

He’s also worried that his daughter Stevie thinks of him as someone who is destroying the Earth because he works for an energy company.

Princess tells Karen that she’s looking for her birthmother and Karen agrees to keep her secret. Princess finds Kat’s address in a GPS console and plans a trip to Brighton.

Nikki tags along with Karen and Princess but has no idea what the real reason for the trip is.

Freddy begins training Scott for his voyage across the Atlantic Ocean because he has some experience rowing.

Tyler doesn’t get picked for his children’s football team often and Jason finds out that many orphans do not do well in team sports so he starts a team of his own just for them.

They fight a lot and aren’t the best at the game but Jason hopes that the team will give them a chance to learn some life lessons.

On Mother’s day, Karen takes the girls on a spa day and Nikki finds out that Princess has been looking for Kat and Karen kept her secret.

Nikki argues with Karen and goes no contact before Jason and Nikki tell Princess that they will support her even though it will be tough to find Kat since Bev tried for many years.

Princess finds a bouquet at Bev’s grave sent by Kat and she gets an address in Mallorca. She uses Nikki’s card to buy a ticket for herself and is headed to the airport when Jason and Nikki find out.

They catch her before she can leave and Nikki realizes that this is something Princess won’t let go of very easily.

She decides to find Kat herself. While she’s in Mallorca, Jason discovers that Princess is behind on most of her course work which means she might fail.

He calls the whole family in to help with all her projects. Nikki finds Kat but lies about who she is.

She spends the day with Kat until Kat discovers who she is and then tells her the truth. Things are falling apart at home so Jason calls Karen for help and she tightens the ship.

After finding out the truth, Kat disappears again and Nikki lies to Princess that she couldn’t find her because the truth would be more hurtful.

Scott realizes that rowing across the Atlantic will be very perilous and has second thoughts. However, when he sees how excited Stevie is, he locks in his focus.

Ending explained:

A fool’s endeavor

With growing publicity for Scott’s initiative, he bags American sponsors that gear him up for his voyage.

Everyone shows up to the beach for his launch but no one seriously believes he’s going to through with it, especially Karen.

When she sees that he is genuinely considering it, she makes a scene and tells him that she doesn’t want him to go on such a dangerous trip.

He listens to her and tells everyone that he is backing out.

Learning new lessons

It’s the last game of the season and Jason is very proud of his team’s progress. They are playing the top team in the league but he’s happy with what he has taught the team.

Nikki keeps asking Princess if her final results have come out and Princess says they haven’t. She has received that email but is afraid to open it.

Noah shows up for the game and tells Jason that some potential parents are there to see one of the children from his team.

Nikki helps Jason realize that sometimes it is okay to use anger since Jason spent most of his time teaching the kids to keep their anger in check because of their situation.

They draw the game but everyone is in good spirits by the end. Princess finally opens the email and sees that she passed her exams.

A future to look forward to

Everyone heads back to Jason and Nikki’s place to celebrate but Karen doesn’t know where Scott is.

Scott was driving back when he spotted a drawing of himself done by Stevie. He changes his mind and goes back to the beach to follow through on his mission to row across the Atlantic.

Noah asks Jason if he wants to train to be a social worker because he sees his potential. Jason agrees although he will have to be a student again for two years.

Princess is going through Nikki’s phone and finds a picture of Kat. Nikki goes to answer the door and sees Freddy who came to tell them about Scott.

She lets him in and then sees Kat waiting across the road from their house with a hopeful look on her face.
