The Chuns: Death and Other Details characters explained

In Death & Other Details, the Chuns are the most important guests for the Colliers on Varuna.

The Chun family operates a global fast-fashion empire overseen by matriarch Celia Chun. The rumors suggest that the Chuns will be making a sizeable investment in Collier Mills.

Hence, the Chuns have been invited to the Varuna for Lawrence Collier’s retirement celebration.

Celia Chun is joined by her granddaughter, Eleanor, who previously had a fling with Anna while they were in business school. Anna has made sure to use this connection to strike a deal with the Chuns.

The Chuns’ interest in Collier Mills

The Colliers’ books suggest that they are broke, but the Colliers are running a classic three-generation family business with nothing dodgy in their books.

Very few companies, such as Colliers’, survive past that. Hence, it’s no wonder the Chuns are interested in them.

By investing in Collier Mills, the Chuns will also be able to step into the US market and gain exposure to a heritage name. Hence, they can’t lose this deal at any cost.

However, at the same time, they don’t entirely trust the Colliers. Hence, they had hired Rufus Cotesworth to find dirt on the family.

When Trubitsky dies, Rufus quits working for the Chuns and focuses on the murder at hand, as he knows that there is a bigger conspiracy taking place here.

The deal

Trubitsky’s murder spooks Celia Chun, who turns away from investing in Collier Mills. It’s Anna who fights hard and convinces them to come back to the table.

Eventually, Anna gets her father to trust her. Lawrence allows Anna to run things her way.

Once the killer is caught, the Colliers and the Chuns sit down for a meeting. The Chuns end up demanding 51% of Collier Mills.

Anna doesn’t accept the deal, but Lawrence does. The Colliers and the Chuns came together to close a deal, and Lawrence intends to do that. He closes it by accepting whatever the Chuns have offered.

Anna isn’t able to handle the decision made by her father, which leads her to rely on her brother Tripp.

Celia Chun’s revenge

Later in the series, it is revealed that Celia Chun is exacting revenge on the Colliers. She and her husband used to work at the factory that was taken over by Collier Mills.

She lost her husband because the Colliers were using banned chemicals at their factory. The Colliers made sure that Celia and others who have suffered stayed silent by giving them money.

Celia vowed to use their money and build her own company. Soon, she met Kira, Imogene’s mother, who had the guts to investigate the Colliers.

Celia was ready to become a witness, but Kira’s case wasn’t accepted, and she was killed in a car bombing.

Anyhow, Celia has gotten what she wanted, as she basically owns the Colliers now.
