Lady Sabrina Halstead, the mother of Freddy, Eddie, and Charly, is a major supporting character in The Gentlemen (2024). Joely Richardson plays the character on the show, now streaming on Netflix.
Sabrina Halstead doesn’t receive much after the death of her husband Archibald Horninman, the twelfth Duke of Halstead.
However, she doesn’t flip out because of her perceived sense of loss, like her eldest son Freddy does.
Throughout the show, Sabrina emerges as the underrated yet one of the more resourceful and tactical characters.
Whereas Eddie is both brave and smooth with his operations, he’s nowhere as efficient as his mother is when it comes to getting things done.
He also employs more laborious and perilous methods to get out of a pickle. Sabrina is truly aristocratic in that she uses her pull and title as well as incredible persuasion skills to get what she wants.Â
For her family
Sabrina loves her family a lot and cares for each one of them, even the hot mess that her eldest son Freddy is.
She also seems to have loved her husband, as is evident by the way she reminisces and talks of him to Eddie and others.Â
However, sometime in the past, Sabrina had an affair, with none other than Geoff, the loyal gamekeeper of the Halstead Manor.
The two even gave birth to a child, who’s none other than Charly, the youngest of the Horniman siblings.
They decided in the past to keep it secret from everyone and pretend that she’s the Duke’s child.Â
More than meets the eye
Eddie is surprised to learn when Sabrina reveals she has always known about the marijuana farms that have been operating beneath their property for years.
Not only that, she knows a lot of other things related to their arrangement with the criminal organization that has run their weed farms not only on their property but on other estates as well.
She’s the one who tells Eddie about the meeting of the 13 lords years ago which preceded the arrangement that they all went on to have with Bobby Glass’ cannabis empire.Â
Sabrina’s skills & tact
Sabrina also works together with Geoff, who she shares a salacious past with, to help her son expedite their extradition from their criminal association.Â
She meets Mr. Rokes, a farmer and owner of the neighboring 2000 acres that he can’t afford to keep and is seeking someone for a long-term lease.
Eddie needs new land for the expansion of the weed farms because he needs to make the Glass family a lot of profit so they can speed up their migration.
She uses her persuasion skills and gets Mr. Rokes to lease his land to them, and hence solve their current predicament.
