Myeong-ja/Akiko: Gyeongseong Creature character explained

Myeong-ja, also known as Akiko, is Ishikawa’s mistress, who is held prisoner at Ongseong Hospital. In Gyeongseong Creature, Ji Woo plays Myeong-ja.

As Commissioner Ishikawa and Lady Maeda’s marriage is of convenience, Lady Maeda does not care that he keeps Myeong-ja as his mistress.

However, his relationship with Myeong-ja becomes a problem when she gets pregnant with his child. Lady Maeda then sends Myeong-ja to Ongseong Hospital.

Myeong-ja’s rescue

Initially, Myeong-ja is kept with all the other Joseon prisoners. She is to stay there until she gives birth to her child.

She witnesses the prisoners getting dragged out of their cells for experiments and getting killed after coming into contact with the creature’s spores.

When Tae-sang sneaks into the hospital to rescue Myeong-ja, she is moved to a solitary cell, but that does not stop Tae-sang from rescuing her.

He makes a deal with a Japanese soldier, Soma, who knows where Myeong-ja is being kept. Soma then brings Myeong-ja to Tae-sang’s group.

Myeong-ja makes it out of the hospital safely and is handed over to Ishikawa. However, she is by no means safe.

The Najin’s effect on Myeong-ja

At the hospital, the Najin had entered Myeong-ja’s body. The parasite takes control of her brain and turns her into a predator; she becomes much stronger and faster.

She leaves the house where she is living with Ishikawa and goes out hunting for human brains. The parasite makes her consume brains to survive.

Myeong-ja kills several people, but as she was not injected with the serum, her appearance does not change.

Myeong-ja comes to her senses when she is called by her name, and it is only then that she realizes what she has done.

Due to Myeong-ja having killed people, Ishikawa refuses to acknowledge her child as his own; he does not want his name associated with a murderer.

Ishikawa tries to send Myeong-ja back to the hospital in a cage, but Myeong-ja, who has seen what happens to people there, refuses to go.

Myeong-ja ends up attacking Ishikawa. An injured Ishikawa is then killed by Ichiro, and his death is blamed on Myeong-ja as well as a Joseon doctor.

Myeong-ja finds herself locked up in a cell once again. When she goes into labor, it is Kato who finds her and delivers her baby.

Myeong-ja does not survive, but the Najin in her body does. Her baby is born with the Najin inside its body.
