Lady Maeda: Gyeongseong Creature character explained

Lady Maeda, initially a formidable ally of Tae-sang, eventually becomes one of his enemies. In Gyeongseong Creature, Claudia Kim plays Lady Maeda.

Lady Maeda, the daughter of Lt. Gen. Maeda, married Commissioner Ishikawa because she needed a loyal husband who would bring her to Joseon and he needed her powerful name and lineage.

It was a marriage of convenience, and they had decided not to meddle in each other’s affairs, but Ishikawa getting Myeong-ja pregnant does not sit well with Lady Maeda.

Lady Maeda uses her power and influence to make Myeong-ja disappear. She has Myeong-ja sent to Ongseong Hospital, which results in Ishikawa forcing Tae-sang to find her.

Lady Maeda’s cruelty

As Lady Maeda is the hospital’s most valuable sponsor, it is important to keep her happy. She is the one who pulls the strings.

When Ichiro fails to keep Myeong-ja at the hospital, he tries to save his job by telling Lady Maeda about the creature.

The creature instantly reacts to seeing Lady Maeda, who comes to know that the creature is Seishin, an old friend of hers.

Lady Maeda claims that Seishin betrayed her, so seeing Seishin’s condition delights her. She asks Kato to train Seishin because she wants Seishin to obey her commands.

Lady Maeda is prepared to support Kato’s human experiments, regardless of the time and money required.

She also orders Ichiro to kill her husband when her husband is injured by Myeong-ja. His injuries allow Lady Maeda to get rid of Ishikawa.

From ally to adversary

Lady Maeda considers Tae-sang, who maintains good relations with the Japanese to keep himself and his business safe, a friend.

Tae-sang comes to ask Lady Maeda for help, but he does not get any. He then breaks into the hospital and stays behind to let other prisoners escape.

When he encounters Lady Maeda there, he uses his gun to threaten her and successfully escapes from the hospital.

Despite that, when he passes out because of his injuries, Lady Maeda takes him to her house and treats him instead of turning him over to the authorities.

When Lady Maeda takes care of Tae-sang, she notices that he has changed. He is no longer the man who only cares about his survival.

It is suggested that Lady Maeda has feelings for Tae-sang, so when her husband tells her that Tae-sang is in love with Chae-ok, Lady Maeda is not too happy.

On top of that, Chae-ok is Seishin’s daughter. Lady Maeda gets Chae-ok abducted and then hands her over to Kato to do as he pleases with her.

Lady Maeda visits Tae-sang and asks him to stop looking for Chae-ok. She wants him to stop acting like a patriot and go back to being the man he used to be.

However, Tae-sang refuses, well aware that he will lose Lady Maeda’s protection and that neither he nor his pawn shop will be safe anymore.

Lady Maeda, who has supported Tae-sang until now, becomes Tae-sang’s enemy when he refuses to conform. She sends her men to kill him and Chae-ok.

The attack leads to Seishin fighting for her daughter and accidentally killing her. A heartbroken Tae-sang then takes his revenge.

He, along with the rebels, plants dynamites in the hall where Ishikawa’s funeral is held. He sends Lady Maeda a farewell note.

Lady Maeda is caught up in the explosion. She does not die, but her body takes considerable damage.

She is then asked to make a choice. She can return to Japan or explore new possibilities with Kato, who offers her water, indicating that she can use the Najin to heal herself.
