Marcus Anderson: Bridgerton character explained

Lord Marcus Anderson is Lady Danbury’s brother who strikes a friendship with Violet Bridgerton. Daniel Francis plays the character.

As soon as Lady Danbury gets news of Marcus’ arrival, she shows some contempt and does not care for his company.

He appears to be a charming man and speaks to his sister with adoration even though it is not reciprocated with the same fervor.

Soon after his arrival, Marcus meets Violet Bridgerton and the two of them hit it off over their brief exchange.

They discuss their shared situations as widowers with the sole responsibility of taking care of their families.

Marcus mentions that though his marriage was not a love match like Violet’s, he still enjoyed it thoroughly and had a great love for his wife until her death.

A second opportunity

Marcus and Violet grow closer as they bump into each other at various balls and around the ton, but Lady Danbury is not too keen on their mingling.

She tries to keep them apart by introducing her brother to the other eligible widowers in the ton.

Marcus asks Violet if they could explore a union together once Francesca is married off, but she says that he has issues to resolve with his sister too.

Marcus Anderson and his sister Lady Danbury had a contentious relationship

Lady Danbury blamed her brother for many things that were out of his control such as their father’s preference for him even though she was the first-born.

She also mentions that she planned on running away the night before her wedding, but he clued their father to her plan and she was stymied.

He apologizes for making that mistake at the age of ten, but reasons that he wanted her to stay a little longer because he admired her so much.

Marcus believed that she had courage beyond any woman of that time and he was in complete awe of her.

With their shoulders unburdened, Marcus asks Violet for a dance at the final ball of the season and Violet gets Lady Danbury’s blessing.
