Mackenzie Cannon: Players character explained

Mackenzie Cannon, an expert at devising hookup plays, learns that her plays cannot get her the relationship she wants. In Players, Gina Rodriguez plays Mack.

Mackenzie, also known as Mack, has several tricks up her sleeve to help her friends hook up with the partners of their choice. Mack’s plays are creative, and they never fail.

Mack believes that it is the effort that she and her friends, Adam, Sam, and Little, put into lying, and not the lies, that seduce the people.

When she meets Nick, a renowned war reporter who seems mature to Mack, she realizes that she is exhausted of flings and wants to settle down with Nick.

Creating an ideal partner for Nick

In order to turn Mack’s one-night stand with Nick into a relationship, Mack and her friends find out everything about Nick’s life.

Mack then leads Nick to believe that they share similar interests. She deliberately keeps running into him to get his attention and even sabotages his dates.

She succeeds in getting Nick to date her, but Nick does not truly know Mack; he only knows the image that she creates for him.

Mack and Nick do not have much in common, and it is evident to others that Mack gets along better with her friend Adam than Nick.

Adam and Mack had a fling in college, but it didn’t progress further because they both believed the other was uninterested.

However, the truth was that Mack had recently lost her mother, and Adam refrained from sleeping with her out of concern that he might be taking advantage of her vulnerable state.

Adam is still in love with Mack, a fact known to everyone except Mack herself. Adam understands her like Nick never does, but Mack fails to see that.

Mack’s right match

Mack works as a sports writer for a newspaper, The Brooklyn Ace. As there have been several layoffs recently, Mack knows that she must write something good enough to secure her job.

While sharing her parents’ story with Adam, she decides to work on a feature that will weave baseball fans’ most memorable moments with the memories of her family.

Mack works hard on the article. It shows her true self and the way she views the world. While Adam loves the article, Nick does not like anything about it.

Nick rewrites the article when Mack asks him for feedback, and that is when Mack realizes that there is a problem with their relationship.

She breaks up with him, recognizing that he does not like her for who she truly is. She now knows that her plays cannot make someone fall in love with her.

Additionally, Mack realizes that she was so focused on getting Nick to date her that she did not stop to consider if she genuinely liked him.

Unlike Nick, Mack’s boss loves the article and asks her to cover the big games. At the same time, Mack finds out about Adam’s feelings for her.

Mack decides to choose the person who always makes her feel safe to be herself. Mack starts dating Adam, but this time, there are no plays involved.
