Kang Hyun-Mo: Marry My Husband character explained

Kang Hyun-Mo, a supporting character in the fantasy romance drama, Marry My Husband, is the late father of protagonist Kang Ji-Won. Jung Suk-Yong plays the character in the show.

Kang Ji-Won led a troubled life ever since her childhood. After her father’s death when she was in school, she got very lonely and became a bad judge of people’s character.

While he was alive, though, her father loved Ji-Won a lot and raised her into a good person as a single father.

A doting father

Kang Hyun-Mo worked as a lorry driver to sustain a livelihood for himself and his daughter Ji-Won, whom he loved with all his heart.

He would often give her allowance and mark all the currency notes by drawing a little heart with a pen.

It was his way of expressing his love for her.

She’d always tell him off for drawing on money but he’d say it’s his love.

He would always tell her that he’d do anything for her and anything she wanted.

Unlucky in love

Kang Hyun-Mo was a broken man in his personal life. His wife, a beautiful woman, left him for a richer man and ran away with him, leaving his daughter as well.

He never got over her and even saw her having quality time with another man while hiding, feeling defeated.

One day, Ji-Won saw her father looking at his former wife having fun with another man, all heartbroken and sad, and it scarred her as well.

The magical guide

Kang Hyun-Mo died of cancer, which is quite hereditary because later on, Ji-Won was diagnosed with cancer as well.

However, his love for his daughter is stronger than the finality of mortality.

He comes back as a preternatural entity, disguising himself as a taxi driver, to help Ji-Won reach home from the hospital one day.

On the way, he tells her to choose her path if given another chance at life.

It is his way of helping his daughter navigate the fantastical turn of fate that she’ll have to contend with soon.

She goes home and witnesses her husband cheating with her best friend, before getting murdered by him.

She wakes up ten years ago and realizes she has been given another chance at life.

Later on, he also gives a ride to Yu Ji-Hyuk, the chairman of the company Ji-Won used to work for, who regrets never being able to confess his feelings to Ji-Won for years.

He talks about being confident and taking another path if he gets a second chance.

Soon Yu ji-Hyuk dies and gets transported back to the same point in time as Ji-Won.

Suffice it to say, Kang Hyun-Mo has been central to the magical turn of his daughter and her lover’s fates.
