Chairman Seonu hires Ji Sun-won, also known as the Engineer, to cause problems for Ja-yu. In Blood Free, Choi Young-joon plays Ji Sun-won.
Chairman Seonu wants to buy BF from Ja-yu, and to convince her to sell her company to him, he keeps causing problems for her.
He not only orchestrates attacks against Ja-yu but also manipulates her team members into betraying her.
To turn Ja-yu’s own people against her, Chairman Seonu hires a man known as the Engineer. The Engineer’s real name is Ji Sun-won, but even Chairman Seonu remains unaware of his true identity.
Master manipulator
Ji Sun-won adopts the cover of a pastor and moves to the countryside, where he makes an impression on a farmer.
He convinces him that the government will do nothing to protect the farmers’ livelihoods from Ja-yu’s cultured products and urges him to take action.
He persuades the farmer to sacrifice his own life by jumping on top of Ja-yu’s car, which also injures Ja-yu.
In addition to manipulating the farmer, Ji Sun-won meets Professor Kim at a welfare center for families who have lost loved ones to cancer.
It was Jeong Hae-deun, a mole planted by Chairman Seonu, who persuaded Professor Kim to attend the meetings at the welfare center.
Before meeting Ji Sun-won, Professor Kim did not blame Ja-yu for his wife’s death because he was the one who asked Ja-yu to treat his wife despite knowing all the risks involved.
However, after only a few meetings with Ji Sun-won, Professor Kim starts blaming Ja-yu for his wife’s death, believing that she would have lived longer if not for Ja-yu.
Professor Kim then betrays Ja-yu and gets his revenge before fleeing the country. Soon after, he is murdered.
Man on the run
When Chae-woon and Ho-seung investigate Professor Kim’s death, Hae-deun warns Ji Sun-won, but Chae-woon and Ho-seung still manage to catch him.
The confrontation between Ji Sun-won and Ho-seung ends with Ji Sun-won killing Ho-seung, prompting BF to target him.
Since he could potentially link the attacks on BF to DORSON if caught, Ji Sun-won knows that Chairman Seonu will try to eliminate him soon, prompting Ji Sun-won to escape.
Ji Sun-won is skilled at covering his tracks, making it difficult for BF, the police, or Chairman Seonu to find him.
However, On San manages to discover Ji Sun-won’s true identity by meeting the sister of the deceased farmer and obtaining Ji Sun-won’s fingerprints.
Ja-yu, aware that Chairman Seonu is trying to have Ji Sun-won killed, contacts Ji Sun-won and asks him to meet her if he wishes to live.
While Ji Sun-won is on the run, Chairman Seonu’s henchmen find him. Ji Sun-won manages to escape once again, but not without sustaining injuries.
It is then that Ji Sun-won contacts Ja-yu and asks her to take him to BF to treat him. Ja-yu finally finds him, but she never gets a confession out of him.
Ja-yu and Ji Sun-won are attacked by Chairman Seonu’s henchmen. Ji Sun-won is taken to BF, but he loses his life there.
