Isa: Neon character explained

In Neon, Isa is a global pop star signed to BPM Records. Genesis Rodriguez plays Isa.

Isa’s real name is Isabela María de la Caridad Díaz. She was born in Cuba. As a kid, she got scouted for The Mickey Mouse Club, an opportunity that changed her life forever.

The industry whitewashed Isa, and she had to push away her Latino identity. She did what she had to succeed. Isa is one of the artists Santi and his friends have grown up listening to.

Santi replaces Isa for a song with producer Jota Rosa on BPM Records, thanks to Mia, which gets him on the label, and soon he meets Isa.

Santi & Isa’s fake relationship

After being signed by BPM Records, Santi is instructed to meet Isa for dinner. Isa plans to date Santi as a publicity stunt. Isa’s management team wants her to go back to her roots with her next record, and Santi has the right look for it.

Isa calls this a mutually beneficial yet completely artificial relationship. Santi’s profile will blow up, and he will get to go with Isa to high-profile events while her music gains popularity.

Isa also hires Santi’s best friend and creative director, Felix, on Oscar’s word to shoot a documentary on her called From Hialeah to Hollywood, California.

Santi gets lost working with Isa

Isa is difficult to work with, as she rejects many of the beats that Santi presents to her. She also doesn’t accept criticism when Ness points out that maybe Isa just doesn’t want to do reggaeton music, and that’s why she isn’t feeling the music.

Anyhow, Santi gets so lost looking at the bigger things that he ends up giving his song, Corillo, which is about his friends, to Isa, who changes the lyrics and the meaning of the song.

Isa and Santi record a new version of Corillo

Santi doesn’t care, as long as a collaboration with Isa benefits him as an artist and a brand. He also stops standing up for his friends, and his selfish nature results in him having a fallout with his friends.

Santi fights Isa back

Isa makes Corillo her song, and Santi becomes one of the background dancers in Isa’s performance for the New Year’s Eve party. He eventually realizes his mistake. However, he can’t break up with Isa.

Isa had seen Santi hugging Celeste Rivera, a journalist. She had warned Santi not to ruin this. When Santi comes to confront her, she shows him the picture of him kissing Celeste at Daddy Yankee’s party.

Isa threatens to accuse him of cheating on her, and this picture will ruin not only his career but also Celeste’s.

At the New Year’s Eve party, Santi musters up the courage to admit that his relationship with Isa was fake in front of the whole world. While his friends have made arrangements to keep Isa off the stage, Santi performs his version of Corillo and steals the show.

Even though Santi will now have to battle in court against Isa and BPM Records, he gains a fan following and an invite from Daddy Yankee to make some music.
