Plot summary:

Carmie, Kev, and Dylan are excited about their fresh new start at Stoker High School where they can reinvent themselves.

Carmie wants to avoid blended drama despite learning that the Shapeshifter is her birth mother.

Dylan is no longer hunting down blendeds and has to figure out what he is when he’s not living up to the Helsing family name.

Leanna is also there at Stoker with them, although she’s warmed up to them at this point.

Kev has a rough first day but his troubles wash away when the first copy of his comic book is delivered.

He wrote and illustrated a series called Carmela, which resembles Carmie, even though no one else sees the similarities.

Carmie meets an upperclassman named Tristan and immediately has a crush on him. He’s on the track team and he asks her to try out too.

Her power levels are escalating and she has a tough time keeping them in check while she is in public.

Kev’s comic book becomes an overnight success after the Collector hosts a signing at his store and the twins invite all their gamer friends in exchange for free copies.

Carmie gets on the track team after using her powers sparingly and begins spending more time with Tristan.

Tristan is working with the Shapeshifter to lure Carmie to her and fulfill a prophecy. Dylan finds the prophecy written in Goblin inside his great-great-grandfather’s journal.

They find a goblin who translates the writing, revealing that Carmie is set to turn into a mythic and wage war against the humans.

The Collector and Leanna are focused on taking Kev and his comics right to the top, and that means promoting his work and securing a spot at Fan Con.

Tristan reveals that he’s a warrior fairy after getting her to reveal that she’s a vampling. He talks about mythic dominance and how they shouldn’t hide from humans.

He drives a wedge between her and her friends who cannot trust Tristan and consider him trouble.

Carmie regularly talks to Madison for advice and to talk about how their lives are going. Carmie uses her powers to win several events at the track meet and tells Kev and Dylan not to be there.

Dylan promises the Collector that he’ll help find his daughter, Jewel. He does some research into Gorgons and makes a pair of goggles that can reveal Gorgons.

The Collector has a strong feeling that she’ll be at Fan Con along with several other blended who visit every year.

Tristan promises to introduce Carmie to other blended at Fan Con, and she attends to support Kev even though they aren’t talking to each other.

Carmie meets a few other blended who also think that Tristan is bad news. He takes her to meet the Shapeshifter, and Carmie meets her mother for the first time.

Ending explained:

Lost in translation

The Shapeshifter tells Carmie that she gave her away to keep her safe and once she came of age, sought her again.

She believes that Carmie will unite humans and the mythics in peace, but Tristan doesn’t want peace.

He wants to rid the world of humans and attacks the Shapeshifter but Carmie takes the attack.

Dylan meets the Goblin once again and is told that his goggles can translate the goblin prophecy.

He reads and discovers that it claims Carmie will bring peace to both worlds.

Meeting friends, old and new

Tristan disappears and takes Kev hostage to lure Carmie out. The Shapeshifter gives her life energy to bring Carmie back to life.

She explains to her daughter the circumstances of her childhood and why she had to give her away.

Carmie goes in search of her Kev and Dylan and gets some help from her new blended friends. They all converge at the dressing room where Tristan has Kev, Leanna, and Dylan hostage.

They all fight him off and he disappears, promising Carmie that she won’t make it past the age of sixteen.

Preparing for the future

The Shapeshifter meets Carmie’s human family and thanks them for doing a good job raising her.

The Collector gives up searching for his daughter, but she finds him and they catch up. She also decides to stay with him for a few months and says that her mother is coming to check things out.

Kev reveals that his next comic is a new series about a cheerleading teenage werewolf, based on Madison who shows up at the show.

Carmie, Kev, and Dylan recount the crazy year that just had and talk about their excitement for what is to come.
