Huguette Valande’s death in Fiasco explained

Huguette Valande is the inspiration for Raphael’s screenplay but he later realizes that she has been lying to him his whole life.

Raphael wrote a screenplay about his grandmother’s life but Huguette always put him down and didn’t respect him even though she raised him after his parents died.

She shows up on the first day of filming to force him to hire their family friend as a stuntwoman even though Ingrid was planning on doing the stunts herself.

When Raphael says some insensitive things about Ingrid makes her angry, he spins it as inspiration for her to act like his grandmother and be angry all the time.

She begins method acting and is rude to everyone on set, just like Huguette generally is to everyone she meets.

Huguette is present during the live interview where Raphael hopes to fix his image but it all goes wrong and Raphael knocks her down while he’s rushing to the washroom with explosive diarrhea.

She has no qualms about accepting money when she takes a payment for attending the interview and also to let them shoot at her farmhouse.

Raphael discovers Huguette’s truth while they are filming at the farmhouse and it jeopardizes the entire film.

A war criminal

When Huguette sees Raphael struggling to take control of his set, she gives him some advice on how to achieve it.

She also tells him to be honest with Ingrid and tell her how he feels. Raphael later sneaks into her room and says that he was never allowed in when he was younger.

He notices that some of the books in the bookcase are fake and uncovers a secret passage leading to an underground basement.

He finds a book filled with pictures of Huguette smiling away with Nazis including one with Hitler.

When he flips the light switch on, the entire room is filled with Nazi memorabilia that was hidden away.

Raphael initially decides to keep it a secret, but when they are shooting a scene with an actor playing a Nazi soldier, Huguette has many pointers to give him.

Raphael loses his cool and calls her out for being a collaborator and lying to him and everyone else her whole life.

Huguette is shocked by his revelation and gets up to walk away but the pressure gets to her and she drops dead.
