How many times has Donald from Invincible died?

Donald Ferguson of the GDA mysteriously returned to work under Cecil despite getting caught in an explosion while facing Omni-Man.

When Debbie goes to check on Mark at the GDA, she runs into Donald and is aghast with horror.

Cecil ushers her away and brushes off the reaction when Donald asks about it. When he visits her at her house, she finds it quite unsettling but doesn’t react too strongly.

He finds a broken pair of his glasses in the rubble from the explosion and his doubts intensify. Donald checks the security footage at the base, which confirms his death.

That makes it all the more confusing for him and he tests a theory. He cuts his forearm with a blade and is relieved to see blood pour out.

However, a closer look at the blade shows that it is bent.

Dedication to the job

Donald confronts Cecil about his condition, showing genuine rage for the first time. Cecil agrees to tell him the truth.

He first takes Donald to the White Room where he reveals a cybernetic exoskeleton that they rebuilt Donald with.

He has an identity crisis after that and tries to resign but Cecil refuses. When Donald says that having his memories erased took away his agency, Cecil says that’s what he wanted.

Cecil opens classified files showing every time that Donald died, and records confirming that Donald decided to have his memory erased to avoid PTSD altogether.

When Rick is on the edge, Donald rushes over to talk to him. He mentions that he’s died 39 times, and each time, he avoided dealing with it because it was easier.
