Plot summary:

Aziraphale and Crowley meet each other for the first time at the beginning of the universe just as Crowley starts it all up. Aziraphale tells him that it is supposed to last for only 6000 years and Crowley questions this decision.

In the present, Aziraphale is enjoying a simple life tending to his bookshop while Crowley lives out of his car while his replacement, Shax, gives him updates on what is happening in Hell.

The archangel Gabriel turns up at Aziraphale’s doorstep completely naked and holding an empty box. He has no memory of who he is or any other memories for that matter.

The angels in heaven and the demons in hell realize that Gabriel is missing and begin searching for him. Crowley shows up at the bookshop and finds Gabriel there but doesn’t want to help Aziraphale keep him hidden.

He returns later after changing his mind and together with Aziraphale, performs a minor miracle to make it so that no one knows Gabriel is there. However, the miracle turns out to be major and grabs the attention of the angels and demons.

The angels show up at the bookshop to find out what the miracle was about and Aziraphale lies that he made Maggie and Nina fall in love with each other.

Maggie is the owner of the record shop next door while Nina owns the coffee shop across the street. Maggie is indeed in love with Nina but Nina already has a partner, although she doesn’t seem too thrilled about the relationship.

Snippets of Gabriel’s memories occasionally sprout up within him and Aziraphale uses these clues to find out what happened to him. He and Crowley also attempt to get Maggie and Nina to fall in love with each other but to no avail.

Over the years, Crowley and Aziraphale had many adventures together after their first meeting and Crowley’s fall from heaven. They were involved in Job’s test by God, where Aziraphale lied for the first time and learned about temptation.

Then they were in Edinburgh in the 1800s where Aziraphale learned how complicated being a human is which makes it tougher for them to stay righteous and good. Crowley also shows his softer side after a bout of laudanum poisoning.

During World War II, Crowley and Aziraphale worked together once again and almost got caught by a demon named Furfur. Aziraphale saved them both with some clever sleight of hand which humiliated Furfur down in Hell.

Shax deduces that Gabriel must be in the bookshop and asks Beelzebub for permission to take an army of demons and attack it. The angels had sent an angel named Muriel to keep watch over Aziraphale but Muriel is very dim and easily impressionable.

Aziraphale plans a ball just like in Jane Austen as a last resort to have Nina and Maggie fall in love with each other and that is when the demons attack. Crowley dupes Muriel into taking him into heaven where he looks in Gabriel’s files.

Good Omens season 2 ending explained in detail:

What does Crowley find in heaven?

Crowley is still able to look into confidential records even though he’s a demon because according to him, heaven doesn’t change their passwords.

He sees Gabriel refusing to sanction another Armageddon on Earth and providing no explanation as to why. The angel Saraqael comes in and explains that they had a trial to decide what to do.

Gabriel was to be demoted and have his memories wiped but before they could do that, he sneaked out of Heaven with all his things and his memories stashed away in something.

Do Nina and Maggie get together?

Nina’s partner breaks up with her and Nina bonds with Maggie while they fight off the demons in the bookshop. Nina does have feelings for Maggie but she doesn’t want to date her until she gets over her break up.

Their open conversation does push them to tell Crowley that he and Aziraphale belong together but they must talk and be open with each other for that to happen.

What do they find in Gabriel’s memories?

Crowley returns to the bookshop and where the top angels and demons have converged after Aziraphale committed an act of war by blowing up his halo to disperse the attacking demons.

Crowley finds a message on the underside of the box that Gabriel brought with him, stating that his memories are in the fly. Beelzebub calls the fly and hands it to Gabriel who takes in and remembers everything.

Over the years, he met with Beelzebub often to discuss the issue of Armageddon and make deals on behalf of heaven and hell. They gradually fell in love with each other and Beelzebub is the one who gave him the fly as a storage container.

They decide to give up their respective positions and live together somewhere far away from heaven and hell and they are allowed to do so.

What happens in the aftermath?

The demons go back to the dark council to see what they have to say. The angels are sent back by the Metatron, who shows up to talk to Aziraphale.

The Metatron tells Aziraphale that he is the best person to take over as archangel with Gabriel gone and also gives him the authority to make Crowley an angel again.

Crowley doesn’t have any interest in being an angel again and tells Crowley that he wants them to be together on Earth as a couple. He gives Aziraphale a big kiss but Aziraphale cannot shirk the opportunity to make a difference on Earth.

The two of them part ways as Aziraphale learns that his first job is working on the second coming, while Crowley drives off in his Bentley, with no idea what lies in store for him.
