Father Toby Briggs is important to Colliers because he is a well-known political kingmaker. The road to political power runs through his church. At least, that’s what people say.
The power Toby holds
Father Toby is responsible for Alexandra becoming the governor of Washington. He also put together the SuperPAC, which calls in all of Alexandra’s favors.
Alexandra shares with Toby that the SuperPAC asked her to be nice to Trubitsky by sending him champagne. The killer was hiding in the bar cart that Alexandra sent to Trubitsky.
Alexandra suspects Lawrence to be the one who made that request. She is quite confident about showing him who the governor is.
At a time like this, Father Toby reminds Alexandra of the power he holds over her by saying that she sometimes forgets who put her in that position.
Toby’s secret
Father Toby is having an affair with Lawrence Collier’s wife, Katherine. Anna catches the two of them having a shower together.
Anna isn’t the only one who knows Toby’s secret. The Chuns have information on everyone who is aboard Varuna. They know about Toby’s affair with Katherine and use it to blackmail him.
