Do-hee’s parents’ death in My Demon explained

Upon discovering the events that led to her parents’ death, Do-hee learns about the involvement of Madam Ju and Gu-won in their deaths.

A young Do-hee loses both her parents in a car accident on her birthday. Along with her parents, she loses stability and happiness.

She is then taken in by various relatives for her money and abandoned as soon as the money runs out.

Do-hee is miserable until she is finally taken in by her father’s business partner, Madam Ju, who not only gives Do-hee a home but also the love of a parent.

Do-hee never stops blaming herself for her parents’ death, as she believes that her urgency to have them return home that day caused the accident.

20 years later, after Madam Ju’s death, Suk-min alleges that Madam Ju killed Do-hee’s parents, which results in Do-hee trying to discover the truth about her parents’ death.

Do-hee’s search for answers leads her to the priest Madam Ju visited frequently, and he tells her about Madam Ju as well as Gu-won’s involvement in her parents’ death.

The consequences of making a deal with the Devil

Do-hee’s father was an engineer who cofounded Mirae Electronics, the parent company of Mirae Group, with Madam Ju.

Eventually, Do-hee’s father quit the company. Madam Ju takes it to new heights through questionable means.

Madam Ju comes to believe that in order to achieve greater things, one has to be willing to make sacrifices, even if that means endangering her employees.

Do-hee’s father does not approve of Madam Ju’s unethical practices, and he tries to stop her from going down the wrong path, but Madam Ju is not ready to listen to reason.

Left with no other choice, Do-hee’s father threatens to expose Madam Ju’s malpractices, but Madam Ju is not willing to risk losing everything she has earned.

To stop Do-hee’s father, Madam Ju follows Do-hee’s parents, which leads to them getting into a car accident.

Madam Ju then witnesses Gu-won appearing out of thin air. It turns out that Do-hee’s father had signed a deal with Gu-won ten years ago.

The deal expires on Do-hee’s birthday, and Gu-won has come to claim her father’s soul. Her father begs Gu-won to save his wife’s life.

As Gu-won has already made a deal with Do-hee’s father ten years ago, he cannot make another deal with him, so he leaves Do-hee’s mother to die.

He then offers to make a deal with Madam Ju, who has witnessed the whole interaction, but Madam Ju refuses, recognizing Gu-won as the Devil.

Madam Ju’s encounter with Gu-won

The accident leaves Madam Ju injured; she hurts her leg and has to use a cane to walk from that day onward.

Furthermore, she learns her lesson. She no longer wishes to grow her company at the risk of other people’s lives.

Madam Ju starts blaming herself for Do-hee’s parents’ death, believing that they would not have died if she had not followed them that day.

While trying to give Do-hee a good life, she grows attached to her, but she never tells her the truth about her parents’ death, as she fears that Do-hee will not forgive her.

However, she confesses everything to a priest and asks him to tell Do-hee what happened that night if she ever comes looking for answers.
