Dirk Bennett, Tim’s student, poses a threat to Kari and Tim’s hard-earned happiness. In The Baxters, Kai Caster plays Dirk.
Like Angela, Dirk is a student of Tim. After going out for coffee with Angela once, Dirk starts to believe that Angela is his soulmate.
Angela was only trying to be a good teaching assistant, but Dirk got the wrong idea. From that day onward, he becomes obsessed with Angela, and it doesn’t take long for his obsession to turn dangerous.
Dirk’s obsession with Angela
As Dirk keeps a close eye on Angela and follows her, he comes to know about her affair with Tim.
To break them up, Dirk informs Kari about Tim. However, that leads to Tim leaving Kari for Angela, bringing Tim and Angela closer.
When Angela finds out that Dirk was the one who told Kari, she confronts him and makes it very clear that she has no interest in dating him.
Dirk still does not give up on his dream of being with Angela. He even resorts to taking drugs to grow stronger and buying weapons.
After meeting with Dirk, the college counselor concludes that he requires psychological treatment due to his lack of friends and frequent outbursts of anger.
Soon after, Tim and Angela break up, and Dirk witnesses her leaving her apartment in tears. He tries to talk to Angela, but she refuses to confide in him.
Dirk learns that Angela will not be returning to college, which leads him to believe that she had no choice but to leave because of Tim.
Dirk thinks that his chance of being with Angela is ruined because of Tim. Dirk then acquires a gun, intending to get his revenge on Tim.
Dirk’s choice
Months later, Dirk shows up at Tim’s house, where a pregnant Kari is alone. He holds Kari hostage and waits for Tim to return home.
It is when Ryan arrives there that Dirk starts to see what is wrong with his actions. Ryan makes him realize that he needs to earn things and not take them to be respected and loved.
Ryan and Kari urge Dirk to prove to Angela that he is different from Tim. Ryan also tells him that he will not be happy with Angela until he accepts himself.
Ryan acknowledges Dirk’s anger and resentment as well as his strength to introspect and be better, which changes Dirk’s mind about killing Tim.
Ryan and Kari tell him that it is not too late because he has not done anything wrong yet. Dirk takes the chance they give him and walks away.
However, Dirk’s anger towards Tim returns when he runs into Tim outside, and he ends up shooting Tim.
When Dirk realizes what he has done, he runs away. Tim does not survive, leaving Kari to raise their daughter alone. As a result, Dirk becomes a murderer.
