Dead Ringers (2023) mid-credits scene explained

Dead Ringers (2023) ends with Beverly deciding to give up on life, but the mid-credits scene of the series hints that there is more to this death.

Beverly and Elliot were quite close, being identical twins who almost shared everything with each other. In fact, when needed, they swapped places according to their comfort.

Despite being this close, Beverly never tried to tell her sister that she is going to bereavement groups and that she is telling everyone there that her sister is dead.

During her time in the bereavement group, Beverly opened up about her personal life and how she is looking forward to having something real with Genevieve. When it came to Elliot, she continued to tell everyone that she is dead and how she wouldn’t have liked her life choices.

Beverly’s death

At the end of Dead Ringers (2023), Beverly admits that she will never be content with life, no matter how much she achieves. After watching her sister’s accomplishments, she says that there should have been only one of them.

Beverly allows Elliot to deliver her babies

Beverly loses the will to live and likes to think that Elliot, the more talented one, deserves the success she has gotten for her hard work. The twins orchestrate a plan. Elliot is allowed to deliver Beverly’s babies and leave her alone to die.

Elliot arrives at their birthing center, pretending to be Beverly, who has just delivered her babies. From that day on, Elliot picked up the identity of Beverly and started living her sister’s life, taking care of her babies and Genevieve.

The mid-credits scene

Two years into the future, Elliot, now as Beverly, is hanging out at the park with her babies and Genevieve. An unknown woman approaches her, assuming that she is Beverly, and congratulates her for having twins.

She mentions that they wondered why she stopped coming to the meetings and that she looks up to her for speaking about her sister’s death. Elliot is left puzzled upon hearing that. She inquires about where she talked about her sister’s death.

Learning about Beverly’s bereavement group meetings and how she told everyone there that her sister died though she was still alive made Elliot question everything.

Elliot joins those meetings as Beverly, in hopes of finding out what made Beverly tell people that she is already dead.

The series never explicitly explains why Beverly did this, but Elliot might be looking for answers to whether she was that big of a burden that Beverly had to mention that she is dead and whether Beverly has used her sister just to escape life, knowing that she will never be content with it, with or without Elliot.
