David: Raising Voices character explained

Alma and David like each other but have yet to confess their feelings. In Raising Voices, José Pastor plays David.

David’s parents lost their jobs a while ago. Due to this, his whole family went through a very hard time.

His younger sister, Greta, had to leave the private school she used to attend because the family could no longer afford it.

David had no choice but to grow weed in the cellar to support his family. While David started dealing weed, his parents decided to keep Greta out of their illegal business.

David and Alma’s brief relationship

Greta’s best friend, Alma, has liked David for a very long time. David reciprocates her feelings, but the two of them have never confessed their feelings to each other.

As David is a dealer, he gets invited to a lot of parties. When he is asked to deal at an exclusive party, he arranges VIP passes for his sister and Alma.

Alma, who is grounded, sneaks out of her house to attend the party in the hopes of finally making a move on David.

However, at the party, David rejects Alma’s advances. He tells her that he is not looking for anything serious, which hurts and embarrasses Alma.

Alma gets drunk and leaves with Hernán. David and Greta, worried about Alma, search for her all night but to no avail.

Eventually, David asks Greta to contact Alma’s parents and tell them everything. Even after Alma makes it home safely, David continues to worry about her.

Greta does not fail to express her disappointment in David, who clearly reciprocates Alma’s feelings, for pushing Alma away, and David cannot stop thinking about Alma.

The next time David meets Alma, he decides to be honest with her. While he likes Alma, he worries that if he starts dating her, he will change his mind about his future plans.

David’s parents might get a job soon. Once his family is financially stable, David plans to stop dealing and travel to different countries.

David tells Alma about his plans

Alma encourages him to pursue his dream and assures him that she does not want a serious relationship either, which leads to David and Alma going on dates.

At the same time, David has to clear his farm overnight when Greta starts selling weed to Mer, who works for the Guardia Civil.

Fearing that Greta has been set up and that he might get arrested along with his sister, David stops dealing altogether.

The loss of the farm gives David the opportunity he has been waiting for: he can now travel as he had always wanted.

While going on dates with Alma, David fell in love with her, so he now asks Alma, who is graduating soon, to travel with him.

However, Alma rejects the offer, as traveling is David’s dream, not hers. Alma needs to figure out what she wants to do.

Alma’s rejection leaves David heartbroken. David goes on to live his dream, and Alma does not hear from him again.
