Chanel: Ready, Set, Love character explained

Chanel, a girl from an influential family, is denied the freedom of choice. In Ready, Set, Love, Nichapalak “Lilly” Thongkham plays Chanel.

Chanel, the daughter of Eve Capital’s president, participates in Ready, Set, Love in the hope of winning a husband.

She is a member of the Organic Gang, which comprises privileged individuals who have a father and are brought up with The Family.

Despite her privileged upbringing, her life has not been easy. She does not have the freedom to make her own choices, as she has to adhere to her mother’s wishes.

Seeking her mother’s approval

As Chanel is talented and smart, everyone expects her to win. Apart from her talent and intelligence, the fact that the game show is rigged in her favor helps her stay at the top.

Her mother, Mrs. Kwan, ensures that Chanel always has an advantage, as she is determined to have Chanel win and marry Son, regardless of Chanel’s wishes.

Chanel has no qualms about sabotaging her competitors and is even mean to her own friends if they let her down. However, she is not a bad person.

Chanel’s behavior stems from her desire to earn her mother’s approval. Mrs. Kwan is extremely hard on Chanel because she had always wanted a son, not a daughter like Chanel.

Chanel has worked hard all her life to be the best at everything, hoping that she will make her mother proud one day.

Chanel believes that her mother will finally approve of her if she marries Son, so she does everything in her power to win.

Prioritizing her own happiness

Eventually, Chanel warms up to Day. She realizes that the two of them could have been friends if they were not competing.

At the same time, Max starts pursuing Chanel, who keeps rejecting his advances, but Max does not give up.

Over time, Chanel finds herself developing feelings for Max, but she still keeps choosing Son over Max, despite her friend’s advice to prioritize her own happiness.

As expected, Chanel’s mother finally gives her the long-sought approval, but only because she thinks that Chanel will be marrying Son.

Her mother’s approval does not make Chanel happy as she thought it would; she still feels empty. Additionally, she realizes that Son is in love with Day.

Ready, Set, Love Chanel
Chanel chooses Max

When Chanel wins, she decides to follow her heart and choose Max, even if that means going against her mother’s wishes.

She stands up to her mother and makes it clear that she will now be choosing what she wants. Chanel no longer seeks her mother’s approval.

While Chanel’s mother is more disappointed in her than ever before, the fact that she had the courage to choose what she wants makes her father proud.
