Beres Champion: Champion character explained

In Champion, Beres Champion is the father of Bosco and Vita. Ray Fearon plays Beres.

Beres runs Champion Steady Radio and dreams of starting his own family enterprise called Champion Crown.

He really cares about the family name and expects Bosco to live up to it and not make a mess of it by ruining his music career.

Beres has never really contributed to keeping the family together. It’s his ex-wife, Aria, who has worked hard at their restaurant to make sure that money keeps flowing.

Despite all of that, Aria is easily charmed by Beres. Even though they are divorced, she often seeks his permission before making an important decision.

Beres’ nature

Beres is the father figure that guides Bosco and Vita whenever the two of them are down. Beres aims to be like his own father and, from time to time, shares what he has learned from him with his kids.

Beres believes Champions are not weak; they are only winners, and he expects Bosco to be a winner too.

Beres’ father instilled in him the belief that one’s name carries significant value. According to his teachings, if a person’s name lacks pride, that individual holds little worth.

Beres has never really tried to understand Bosco. He is harsh with Bosco and cares more about the music being made and Bosco becoming successful so that the name Champion remains celebrated.

Beres makes Bosco sign a contract with Champion Crown without reading it

Bosco clearly needs a breather from everything he has been through, but his father never allows him to take that time out, even though he is often told that Bosco is not ready and needs help.

Beres is really good at manipulating his kids into doing his bidding. For the most part, he succeeds, as he at least gets Bosco to sign a contract with Champion Crown without him reading it.

Beres’ secret

The Champions, except Bosco, visit Jamaica for Beres’ father’s funeral. During their time in Jamaica, several of Beres’ secrets come to light.

These secrets show Beres’ true nature. Beres made Aria quit music after Bosco’s birth and gave her a restaurant instead to run.

Aria surrendered to Beres’ wishes and never left that restaurant after setting foot in it 24 years ago.

Apart from that, it is also revealed that Junior, whom Vita and Bosco see as their uncle, is actually Beres’ son from an affair.

Beres abandoned him. Since then, Junior has been living with Beres’ father. Beres’ Aunt Sissy had questioned Beres about his responsibility as a father and whether his father would be proud of what he has done.

The revelation of the secret puts Beres’ entire family against him. What’s more heartbreaking is that his own father has left everything in his will to Junior.

Beres’ fate

While Aria and Vita stop falling for Beres’ charm, Beres is able to manipulate Bosco. That is until Bosco learns that the contract he signed with Champion Crown suggests that he is not a partner in business.

Beres owns all of Bosco’s music, as Champion Crown is a subsidiary of Bosco’s old label. Beres now controls all of Bosco’s music.

Bosco’s life falls apart, as he not only loses his music but also his daughter, who will be moving away to New York with his ex-wife and her fiancé.

Bosco goes missing for a while. When he makes a comeback with an independent song, he fires shots at his father.

Champion Crown can’t capitalize on the popularity of that song. Furthermore, their image is hurt.

To protect their image, Beres is ready to stoop low. He finally accepts that his son needs mental health assistance at a time when he has recovered.

Beres ends the season by getting Bosco arrested so that he can be sent to recover.
