In American Rust: Broken Justice, Angela Burgos is Del’s partner in the Pittsburgh Police Department. Luna Lauren Velez plays Angela.
Detective Angela Burgos is a cop known for doing everything by the books—a quality the members of the brotherhood, an unofficial group at Pittsburgh Police Department, don’t appreciate.
In the second season, Angela works with Del on Liam McKenna’s case, and later in the series, she also joins him in the operation affiliated with the FBI to take down the brotherhood.
Unfortunately, a series of events make things worse, and Angela is also motivated to turn on her partner, Del, by the end of the second season.
Protecting Cynthia
Aside from investigating the Liam McKenna case, Angela grows concerned about Cynthia, a fellow officer working at the Pittsburgh PD.
Cynthia’s partner, Vic Walker, a member of the brotherhood, abuses her regularly. However, Cynthia refrains from reporting him to the IA, believing that he will change someday.
Angela’s concern for Cynthia possibly stems from the fact that Angela herself grew up with an abusive father who was difficult to understand.
Angela’s worries turn into paranoia when she sees the texts shared between Cynthia and Vic, in which Vic has sent Cynthia a selfie with a dead body, threatening that this is what he will do to Cynthia.
Against Cynthia’s wishes, Angela reports Vic to the IA, which ruins the relationship that Angela and Cynthia share.
Cynthia dies after coming to the aid of Angela and Del during their shootout with the brotherhood. Cynthia’s last message is a heads-up for Angela about Chief Bolt, who is secretly a member of the brotherhood.
Possible turn on Del
Near the finale of American Rust: Broken Justice, Angela is welcomed into the family of Del and Grace. However, a visit from Steve Park changes everything.
Steve Park hands over his entire investigation, which suggests Del is a murderer who escaped to Pittsburgh, to Angela.
Angela is present when Del becomes the sheriff of Fayette County. Only time will tell whether she will take action against Del or not.
