Plot summary:

After her husband passed away twenty years ago, Aunty Bunmi decided to live her life to the fullest and not compromise anywhere.

She was well-known in party circles and was always invited to have a good time. However, she didn’t take care of her health enough and ended up in the hospital one day.

The doctors tell her that she needs to go to India and meet with specialists who are better suited for the care she needs.

She tries to contact her son Yemi, but he is unreachable. Yemi is supposed to be at school but he has a passion for dance and wants to become a star.

He is also irresponsible with money and owes many people. Things appear to turn around when Yemi is chosen as a backup dancer in a Bollywood movie.

He moves to Mumbai around the same time as his mother but he keeps it a secret. He wants to make it big so that he can take care of her.

Aunty Bunmi travels to India with the help of her brother, Olumide, who settled in India decades ago.

Olumide is a successful businessman but he’s also very cold and calculating. The only person who can stand him is his accountant, Kabir.

Kabir tells Olumide about a great property they should check out but when they get there, Olumide is shocked to see who is living there.

The woman he loved once upon a time, Rekha, was there with her pregnant daughter. Olumide wanted to marry her when they were younger but she refused due to family pressure.

Aunty Bunmi meets her doctor, Siddarth, at the hospital. He mentions that his wife is also Nigerian so he feels a connection to Aunty.

He and his wife, Zainab, decided not to have children when they were getting married but Siddarth has changed his mind and this creates some tension between them.

Yemi arrives on set for his new gig but one of the lead dancers, Ronny, keeps bullying him because he is different.

Another fellow dancer, Aarti, always stands up for him and helps him with the choreography. Aunty Bunmi is constantly trying to get in touch but he keeps putting it off.

Even Siddarth’s family is putting pressure on Zainab about having children and when she tells them that she doesn’t plan on it, Siddarth supports her.

She feels guilty for denying him something so huge even though he has always been by her side and loved and cared for her.

Ronny keeps bullying Yemi to the point that Yemi beats him up. His job is in jeopardy after that although everyone else supports him for standing up to Ronny.

Siddarth tells Aunty Bunmi that she needs surgery so she calls to make peace with her brother and sends a message to Yemi asking him to just get back to her.

Yemi finds out from his manager about his mother but when he calls her, she is already in surgery. He leaves her a message and hopes that nothing happens to her.

Zainab has been keeping it a secret from Siddarth that she is pregnant and she even visits an abortion clinic as she considers terminating the pregnancy.

Olumide goes back to the property to see Rekha and Kabir shows up as well. They find out that Rekha has Alzheimer’s and probably doesn’t remember Olumide.

He is heartbroken and Kabir tells him that is finally time to let go of his hard exterior and open himself up to new things.

Ending explained:

A changed man

With a new perspective on life, Olumide decides to have a small family gathering to celebrate his 60th birthday.

He has Aunty Bunmi’s flight rescheduled and has her brought home so that she can stay with him for a few more weeks.

Her surgery was a success and she was ready to go back to Nigeria. Olumide’s PA also reaches out to Yemi about getting him to show up for the celebration as a surprise.

Yemi doesn’t reveal that he’s already in India because he is waiting for the right moment.

Revealing his dreams

Aunty Bunmi also invites Siddarth and Zainab to the dinner party so everyone turns up for the celebration.

Zainab knows Aunty Bunmi because she used to work for Olumide, but Siddarth never revealed the name of his patient which is why it took this long for them to connect.

Aunty Bunmi is also thrilled to finally see Yemi as they all sit down for dinner. Siddarth mentions that Aunty Bunmi was very sad when she couldn’t reach her son.

Olumide also comments on that and Yemi answers back disrespectfully. He comes clean about being in India to follow his dreams of being a star.

Aunty Bunmi says that she would never force him to do something he doesn’t want to, but he should know better than to be disrespectful to his elders.

They make up and Olumide says that Yemi must take courses alongside his work so that he can also take over Olumide’s business in the future.

Expanding the family

Seeing all of this happen, Zainab gets emotional and walks away from the table. Aunty Bunmi follows her and immediately knows that she is pregnant.

Zainab says that she feels like a hypocrite but Aunty Bunmi says that Siddarth loves her so he will accept whatever she has to say.

She leaves and Siddarth walks up to Zainab. He says that he is a little angry that she kept the pregnancy a secret but he’s excited to raise a child with her.

They agree to have the baby and make the announcement at dinner. Yemi also gets a notification that his role in the film is being increased and he is one step closer to his dream.
