In Monsters 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation, a samurai faces trouble when he is held responsible for bringing a dragon to a town. The movie is now streaming on Netflix.
Story
Ryuma, a samurai, looks for someone who will feed him in a town that is also being visited by Shirano, a Master Swordsman.
Shirano is celebrated for saving a child seven years ago when a dragon erased a village. That child is Flair, who works at a restaurant in this town.
While Shirano is loved and seen as a hero, Ryuma becomes an enemy of everyone when he is accused of stabbing a man and trying to steal the Dragon’s Horn from him.
The stabbed man plays the horn in a desperate move and calls the dragon. With the villagers fearing for their lives, the question remains: Is there anyone who can defeat a dragon?
Positives
Monsters 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation doesn’t necessarily offer a unique story, but it uses the same old tropes to its best advantage.
The lead character pretty much has the attributes of every other lead anime character: strong but kind of dorky sometimes.
What’s important is that he connects with viewers and makes them laugh and root for him despite that.
The film is very good at concealing its characters’ true identities and motives. Hence, viewers are surprised and filled with adrenaline with every revelation.
The backstories and the lore around the best swordsman fit so effortlessly in a 25-minute film.
The characters are lovable, while the villains inspire hate. Also, the film hits all the right emotions.
Lastly, the film makes sure its story comes full circle at the end, which makes it more satisfying. The cameo at the end is the cherry on top.
Negatives
The lack of action may disappoint a few fans. Other than that, Monsters 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation not being a full-fledged series is the only crime that it can commit.
Verdict
Monsters 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation gives a full-fledged anime experience in 25 minutes. It’s an all-out satisfying story, hitting the right emotions.
