Love Storiyaan review: Beautiful mosaic of love persevering

Love Storiyaan follows six real-life couples who reminisce, recount, and relive their perseverant love stories that defied all odds and prejudices. The docuseries is available to stream on Prime Video.

Story

Episode 1 follows Aekta and Ullekh, who hail from two different states and social backgrounds but fall in love with each other.

Aekta, a divorced mother of two daughters who doesn’t take well to Ullekh initially, finally decides to stay with him no matter what. Soon they form a strong family.

Episode 2 sees two radio jockeys fall in love with the help of a blind woman, who was also an ardent listener of the two and thought of introducing the two to each other.

Though their story is filled with rough patches and unprecedented turns, the surprise makes love all the more exciting for Rajani and Nicholas.

Episode 3 follows Sunit and Sharmila and how their forty-six years of marriage came about in the first place.

The couple also gets to visit their birthplace and meet their long-estranged loved ones.

Episode 4 follows the love story of upper caste social activist Rahul and his wife Subhadra, hailing from a poor family of Dalit farmers, who is also a fiercely independent activist.

Episode 5 follows Dhanya, who flies to Kabul to be with her husband Homayoun, amid civil unrest.

Episode 6 follows the love story of two people born with bodies that didn’t agree with their gender identities.

Tista and Dipan eventually transition and embrace each other, finding in each other their true love.

Positives

Love Storiyaan is exquisitely shot. The presentation, which combines the documentary format with dramatic representations, is one with few flaws.

The scores are just as beautiful and easy to the ears as the visuals are to the eyes.

And yet, the emotional quotient is what truly makes this series so effective in its message and contemplation on true love and all that it entails.

Love Storiyaan features stories of love from different states, different nations, and different gender identities; all of them inspire progressivism, acceptance, and an undeniable celebration.

The other remarkable standout here is the sheer diversity of cultural, ethnolinguistic, social, and even topographical backdrops that the stories come with.

The stories, because of the people that they are about, are just adorable. The crew also manages to capture some really cute candid moments.

Negatives

It doesn’t run for more episodes.

Verdict

Love Storiyaan is a beautiful presentation of six love stories, all of exemplary tenacity amid adversities.

Courage, relentless love, perseverance, tolerance, and struggle — there are many elements that inform the makeup of each true tale of love.

The docuseries also balances really well, the mixture of the documentary format and the dramatic representations, with great background scores to boot.
