The lab was attacked and he was on a video call with Se-Kyung when he got picked up by the attackers.
He somehow makes it back to Woongcheon but doesn’t go into detail about what he went through or how managed to return.
The actor Yoo Ah-In was indicted on drug charges in 2023 and as a result, his role in Goodbye Earth was reduced and the focus shifted to Se-Kyung.

He studied genetic DNA and isolated defects so that they could be eliminated, which made it integral to humanity.
When he returned to Woongcheon, the JIU took a special interest in him and kept a close watch.
He was covered in scars and though he didn’t reveal it to anyone, he was tortured in the US for certain information.
Se-Kyung went through a lot while he was away and he realizes that there is so much about her that he wasn’t aware of.
He returned so that he could take her to a safety zone abroad but she is dedicated to the children and doesn’t want to leave.
He does his bit to help the community, but people reach out to him about his research and offer him a chance to escape among the elites.
Key among these is Father Baek, his godfather who abandoned the people of Woongcheon with the money that was donated to the church.
Yun-sang wants Se-Kyung to go with him but is disappointed that she isn’t honest with him about what she’s going through.
He helps his friends thwart the JIU’s escape and then finally has a conversation with Se-Kyung.
With everything off her chest, they finally get married and have a calm few months before Se-Kyung decides to do something about the traffickers.
In the final 10 days, when Se-Kyung goes to the underground casinos and kills the men in charge, Yun-Sang heads to the port with a different idea in mind.
