The third episode of The Mosquito Coast season 2 sees the Fox family adjusting to a new community in a forest. The episode is now streaming on Apple TV+.

Recap

The Fox family arrives at a community disconnected from the outside world, led by Isela. Though the people over here are a bit hostile towards them, Isela welcomes them with open arms.

She also clarifies that this isn’t a five-star hotel or anything like that; the family must help make this place better.

In the next two weeks, the family finds its place in the community. Margot spends time fishing while Dina takes care of the goats. The person they are most worried about is Charlie.

They believe he needs help, and Dina even finds him half-asleep, staring at butterflies breeding in the forest. On their way back, Isela crosses paths with them and advises Charlie not to go too far and to keep his head down while he is in the jungle.

Back at the camp, she chats with someone on her laptop. The message suggests that a man named William Lee is still looking for the Fox family. Despite all the warnings, Isela wants to take the risk of keeping them here.

During lunch, Isela explains to the family how everyone here has had their fair share of struggles with the outside world and how injustice has brought them all together here in this community.

Charlie joins the boys around for a game of football. Meanwhile, Dina asks Allie about her passport and figures out that he is getting too comfortable here.

Even Margot notices Allie buying some books from Ridley, who brings supplies for the community on a boat with a boy named Adolfo.

Dina learns from Adolfo that Isela is planning to sell their trawler to Ridley and buys some pills from him.

Margot and Dina fear that Allie doesn’t want to leave, and now they might lose their only way to escape.

Allie later surprises Margot with a typewriter, a study table, and books. Dina believes they never asked for all of this and need to leave while they still have a chance.

With the pills she had brought, the mother-daughter duo decided to drug Allie at night to escape.

Allie spent the day fixing lights for the football match at night. During the match, he learns from Isela that the trawler is being sold. He visits the trawler and realizes that Margot has been fueling it.

Allie’s family later invites him to thank him for everything. Margot drugs his drink, but before he could take a sip, he asks them to step outside and takes them to the trawler, which is now slowly sinking into the water.

Amidst all of this, Lucrezia’s hitman, Bill, also known as William Lee, continues to look for the Fox family and kills some of the local goons when they fail to give him credible information.

Review

The time jump brings a huge change to the motives of the characters. It’s quite hard to understand how their relationships fizzled out altogether during the duration of two weeks.
The show tried to make the Fox family likable and now they are suddenly against each other after getting along in the first two episodes.
Despite all of that, it seems like the show will unfold the Fox family’s new adventure here in this new community slowly. At least, until Bill arrives looking for them.
The question is whether they will communicate properly or choose to stay the way they are, which has already become a problem.
